I was super excited when Shelbee announced this month’s fab40s theme: the Fab40s meet the roaring 20s. Pick a 1920s inspired trend and make it modern for the 2020s. How cool is that for a theme? I’ve long been a fan of the fashion from decades gone by. My favourite being anything between the 1920s and the 1950s. The fashion from those decades was so beautiful – I particularly loved how women were inspired to dress like men, yet they still managed to pull it off in such feminine ways.
Wide-legged trousers
Wide-legged trousers are and have always been, a favourite of mine. So when I came across a pair of brown ones in a recent sale, I jumped for joy lol. I spotted them in a supermarket (!), but there was only one pair and it was too big. But, being the determined woman that I am, I stayed on the case and hunted through every rail until I found my size YAY!
The funny thing is, I already have a pair almost the same but in my favourite shade of green. And I love them so much but didn’t think I’d ever find them in another colour. Needless to say, I was delighted. And…they only cost 9 euros. Yes, you read that right. 9 euros! Talk about a bargain! The only problem is they’re way too long and really need to be altered. But I didn’t get round to it in time for this month’s Fab40s so I decided to wear a black pair instead lol (after all that explanation). I bought the black trousers on eBay last year and this is the very first time I’m wearing them!!
Ruby Shoos
I recently purchased a pair of heels. Shock horror…. I know. It was only last year that I disposed of almost all my heels because my feet just cannot cope with them anymore. However, having said that, I can still wear some heels if they’re not too high (and provided I can sit more than stand lol). And Ruby Shoo has been on my must-buy radar for quite some time.
Have you heard of them? They’re divine and come in all shapes and sizes and I just adore them. So, in the January sale (naturally), I decided to get myself a pair. Unfortunately, I was limited on what was available in a UK size 6, but happily, these were available. Aren’t they divine? I love the tweed effect and the bow. So girlie! And also somewhat 1920s in style – so simply perfect for this month’s Fab40s.
1920s style jewellery
Isn’t this pearl necklace to die for? It was yet another gift from my mother-in-law! It couldn’t have been more perfect for this theme, could it? Gals in the 1920s just couldn’t get enough of pearls so to find one that also had a ‘flapper’ feel to it, I could’ve squealed lol! The bracelet and ring were both gifts from mother-in-law too. I know, I am one lucky girl, right? The ring is exquisite – she bought it for me for Christmas. After having discovered that I adore opals, she found this one and it’s perfect. When I first saw it, I thought it had an art deco feel to it as well. Perfection!
The clutch was inherited from my late step-mother-in-law. I know it’s not exactly 1920s in style but I felt like it worked with the outfit.
1920s evening jackets
Long-line evening jackets were all the rage in the 1920s, and I must admit to having taken some inspiration from one of my favourite TV characters, Miss Fisher. I just adore her style and she can often be seen sporting wide-legged trousers with long-line evening jackets, particularly in velvet, like mine.
Speaking of mine, isn’t it pretty? I bought it from Stradivarius a few years ago. It was the print that I was initially drawn to. That and the fact that it’s velvet. I have worn it before on the blog once or twice before but this is my favourite outfit so far.
I love the resulting outfit and feel like I’ve worked the theme relatively well. But perhaps not as well as some. Just check out these amazing outfits from the other Fab40s gals…
Shelbee, Shelbee on the Edge
Shelbee’s look is simply spot-on for 1920s inspiration. She has used all the little details to make her outfit shine, from that gorgeous headband, leather gloves, lots of fur and pearls to the 1920s shoes. She’s just knocked the ball right out of the park, right? And I just love it!

Like several of us, Dee has added a fur collar which compliments this outfit, beautifully! And the addition of a modern style cloche hat really gives it that 1920s vibe. I’m loving the beaded dress – I’m such a fan of all things art deco and so the print is simply divine!

Sheela, Sheela Writes
Having had to deal with some personal issues recently, Sheela was unable to do a 1920s inspired photoshoot. However, she happened to have some from a few years ago that were unpublished. And here they are. Doesn’t she look incredible? I love how the very feminine and soft, drop-waisted dress has been teamed with a pair of killer heels!
Daenel, Living Outside the Stacks
I just knew that Daenel’s 20s outfit would be incredible because of this photo she posted on Instagram last year. Isn’t it utterly divine? What I adore about her outfit here, is the fact that she really made the look perfect for this new decade, the 2020s, with the addition of those killer boots with that killer dress! LOVE!
Our guest, Carrie from Curly Crafty Mom
We are delighted to have the gorgeous Carrie with us this month, and boy has she pulled out all the stops with this one! Gone full-on 1920s glamour puss, Carrie’s look is simply DIVINE. The flapper dress is so beautiful and goes incredibly well with all the ‘trimmings’. I don’t know about you, but I can’t stop staring lol!
