The Fab40s: Animal print and neon

animal print and neon

When Sheela chose this month’s theme of ‘Lord Animal Meets Lady Neon’, I think we all shrieked a little bit in fear lol. But after giving it some serious thought, I think we’ve all had enormous fun creating looks with animal print and neon.

I do have a few items in my wardrobe featuring animal print – a scarf and a clutch, for example, oh and a cardigan. None of which I really wanted to use for this crazy theme. So I went shopping with my pal, Sarah, and came home with this leopard print shirt which ties at the waist. (Don’t you think I’m being incredibly brave showing a little midriff here because I usually completely shy away from it!!) I also bought a rather sexy transparent top in the same print but when it came to it, I much preferred the shirt. I bought both from Bershka, by the way.

How I wore animal print and neon

When I got home, I tried a few things on and particularly liked the shirt with my wide-legged, brown, Jigsaw trousers. Initially, I paired them with my white and gold Converse (which you can see in my very first Fab40s outfit here). However, whilst shopping a week or so later, I spotted the cutest leopard print pumps in Stradivarius. I was gutted though, when they only had one pair left in a tiny size! It didn’t occur to me until later that I might be able to find them online. Fortunately, I did and they were only 12.99!! I had to have them.

This is the very first time I’m wearing those cute leopard print pumps so they do look very clean and new. They did come up a tad large though so I’m not sure if they’ll look good with anything other than wide-legged trousers, but I will try!

Now for the neon

This is where I struggled a bit. The only thing I owned in neon is a matching skirt and top – a gift from mother-in-law a few years ago. It is gorgeous, but I’ve still never quite found the right time to wear it. Sadly, it’s a summer outfit and way too cold to wear it at the moment. So I had no choice but to hit the shops again! It’s a hard life lol 😉

I couldn’t find a single neon thing that I loved enough to buy so I ended up looking online where I stumbled across this insane fluffy neon green handbag. I’ve decided it’s not something I’ll ever wear again so I will be giving it to a young friend on her birthday – her 13th birthday lol! I reckon she’ll love it. I bought it from New Look for just a few pounds. Although it’s cute, it’s just not very me. I do love the neon green though (me and my green….lol)

So that’s my interpretation of animal print and neon. Or should I say, my interpretation of Lord Animal Meets Lady Neon! A little subdued, perhaps? Anyway, enough about me. Let’s see how the rest of the girls paired animal print and neon…

Sheela Goh from Sheela Writes

As this theme was Sheela’s crazy idea, I just knew she would look I.N.C.R.E.D.I.B.L.E. I wasn’t wrong, was I? Just look at this woman… she’s like a supermodel out of Vogue Magazine! I’ve always loved zebra print (why, oh why don’t I own anything in zebra print??), so I just can’t take my eyes off of these trousers! They’re the nuts, right?! I would totally wear this entire outfit and be proud. LOVE LOVE LOVE <3

Jennie from A Pocketful of Polka Dots

Jennie has absolutely NAILED it this month (just like every month, really). She has managed to pair the two beautifully and looks like she had so much fun doing it too. I adore the bright neon pink, which really is her colour (hence the hair!). And the pink fishnets are simply brilliant! And I’m super envious that she can wear heels like that!

Shelbee from Shelbee on the Edge

I had a feeling Shelbee would rock this theme and I wasn’t wrong. She has such a fun story about how this outfit came about, so do head on over to her blog to read all about it. Personally, I think she ought to wear neon more often because she looks gorgeous! I just adore the colour!

Daenel from Living Outside the Stacks

I have to say that Daenel was the one gal I was the most curious to see. I adore her style and I would imagine that animal print and neon was totally out of her comfort zone. But she’s kept it simple – keeping the animal print on her feet and the neon up top. Love the yellow on her. So pretty, as always!

Outfit Details:
Earrings – Nickel & Suede
Sweater & Jeans – Target
Shoes – Zulilly

And our gorgeous guest this month, Samantha from Fake Fabulous.

One of the things I love about Samantha’s style is that it’s often unexpected. For example, she’ll team colours that you wouldn’t normally think to put together and yet they always look amazing, like the neon pink with the deep red of the jumpsuit. And adding those animal print boots are just the icing on the cake. Gorgeous!
