Fab40s: florals and plaids

Fab40s

The Fab 40’s is a group of style bloggers from around the globe. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger also in their forties to join us. This month, Mary chose the theme of florals and plaids. The group’s goal is to take on style trends and show how we each interpret and incorporate them into our own lives. With widely varied views, you are certain to find something that speaks to you each month and encourages you to continue to have fun with fashion after 40.

I must admit, I found this to be a real challenge. I’m not much of a plaid girl, and I don’t actually wear florals very often. So, mixing the two didn’t come easily to me.

Florals and plaids

Florals and plaids

Fortunately, before Mary had even suggested the theme of florals and plaids, I’d bought a pair of fun plaid heels. Unfortunately, you’re unlikely to see them ever again. Talk about uncomfortable! Last week, I mentioned that I’d got rid of most of my shoe collection (on account of my painful bunions). I had kept these plaid heels in the hope that they wouldn’t kill my feet. (Plus the fact that I only just bought them in the winter sales – luckily I only paid 6 euros lol!!). It was clearly hopeless though. They’re awful. But at least I got to wear them once!

florals and plaids

As for the floral part of the challenge, I chose to wear this gorgeous sweater bought from Oasis at Christmas time. Would you believe it only cost five pounds?!! I know, crazy right? It was reduced from forty! I couldn’t believe it at the time. Even thought I said above that I don’t wear florals very often, I do love it when I come across a floral print that is just, well… me. And this top does feel like a me top. If you know what I mean?

I would never have thought to wear it with anything plaid, to be honest, but when I put on the heels, it all just worked. Don’t you love it when that happens? I was thrilled with the look – just bummed that the shoes hurt too much. And you should see me trying to walk in them. So not a pretty sight!! Oh, I forgot to mention. They’re actually one size too big lol. But, for six euros, I couldn’t resist. In future, I will. Resist, that is. Like I said last week, from now on, I’m only buying comfy (yet stylish!) shoes!!!

Cashmere scarf

The plaid cashmere scarf isn’t mine, sadly. It belongs to hubby, who bought it during our holiday to Scotland a couple of years ago. He didn’t mind me pinching it for this outfit though ;). And the handbag was another fabulous hand-me-down from mother-in-law.

But that’s enough about how I styled florals and plaids, let’s see how the other gals chose to wear it…

Jennie, a Pocketful of Polka Dots

Jennie’s floral kimono is absolutely GORGEOUS! I just adore the green and pinks within it – and it looks simply stunning with the plaid trousers and cream top beneath. All this matched with Jennie’s fabulous pink hair and she looks amazing!
