After my crazy theme in April (inspired by superheroes), I think we were all relieved to have been given a much more down to earth theme this month. It was Jennie’s turn to choose and she went with the awesome theme of ‘style icons’.
Style Icons: Audrey Hepburn
Initially I had thought about styling an outfit a la Twiggy from the swinging sixties. However I had second thoughts after realising I much preferred Audrey Hepburn’s style. And to be honest with you, when I think of the words ‘style icons’, it’s Audrey who first springs to mind! Followed closely by Katherine Hepburn – but my Fab40s outfit from a few months ago actually reminds me of her.
So for the style icons theme this time round, I did a bit of research on Audrey’s style and (as predicted) I just loved everything about her personal je ne sais quoi. She was clearly a fan of cigarette trousers and capris, as well as button down shirts and flat pumps. Not to mention her signature red lippy and black winged eyeliner.
Black and white capris
I have a pair of black and white checked capris (that are actually part of my work uniform this summer) from Green Lamb (available from Sophie’s Golf Shop) that I knew would be perfect for this look. Initially I wanted to wear them with a white button down shirt, tucked in and wrapped over at the front instead of buttoned. Apparently this was something Audrey liked to do. Unfortunately, I couldn’t quite get it right. It looked okay but it didn’t feel okay. And if you’re a regular reader, you’ll know that I simply cannot wear anything that isn’t comfortable!
So I chose to modernise style icon Audrey’s signature outfit by wearing a black cut off shirt – loosely as opposed to tucked in. And the shoes I chose? Well, they HAD to be my gorgeous black leather pumps from Calla. They’re very Audrey darling 😉
Accessories
I kept the jewellery simple and elegant, just as she would, after seeing a picture of her wearing a similar style of earrings as these. I added a pretty pearl bracelet and this vintage mother-of-pearl (I think!) clutch which belonged to my late step-mother-in-law. It’s cute, isn’t it? Oh, and I tried to do a black winged eyeliner, added lashings of black mascara and plenty of red lipstick. Et voila, my idea of a contemporary Audrey Hepburn look!
But I’m not the only one who chose Audrey for this style icons theme. Jennie also had the same idea. Although she’s gone much more elegant than me, and she looks freaking gorgeous with it too! Read on to find out more…
Jennie, a Pocketful of Polka Dots
I’m blown away with Jennie’s pic this month, I mean, just look at her! If you didn’t know any better you’d think it was Audrey Hepburn with pink hair!!! I love everything about this look, right down to the pink bubble gum <3
