When you talk about Armação de Pêra, most people will mention, ‘The Holiday Inn Algarve’ (or the Hotel Garbe as it was formerly known). It has a prime position at the western end of the up and coming fishing town and is situated right on the beach – which, incidentally, is one of the finest beaches in the region.
Michael and I had the opportunity to stay there last week and it was great fun to stay overnight somewhere that wasn’t that far from home. The executive suite was lovely, a huge room (if I wasn’t suffering with a bad back at the time, I would have loved to practice yoga there – with all that floor space looking out at the sea!) with dual aspect windows, both with different outlooks of the gorgeous beach and pool below. The views are seriously stunning there. Sadly, due to work commitments we weren’t able to get there until just after dark so we missed out on the sunset which, I’m told, is always spectacular.
The hotel has everything you could need from a stay in Armação de Pêra – including very comfortable beds, a heated outdoor pool, small gym, a couple of restaurants (one of them, The Raj, serves delicious Indian food), a bar with panoramic windows looking out at the sea, and it’s perfectly located for walking into town. There’s even a small pool table and pinball machine. Not only that, but the staff are very sweet and always eager to help in any way. There’s even the occasional mini fashion show featuring clothes from local boutique, Filine Fashion, and then models are usually guests from the hotel!
I must mention the breakfast – we were very pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of food on offer, including a yummy cooked English breakfast, which always goes down well with me!
All in all, The Holiday Inn Algarve is a great choice for all ages, I’m even going to recommend it to my brother when he visits with his young family next year – I’m sure the kids will love being that close to the beach as well as the pool.
In the winter months though, I should note that it is more popular with retirees. When we stayed last week, we were definitely the youngest people there!
