BOOKS: A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle

A New Earth

I bought A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle over a year ago but didn’t actually read it until earlier this year. It all started while I was working at Sophie’s golf shop. During the drive to and from work, I decided to start listening to podcasts instead of the radio and I soon became a podcast addict!

One of the very first ones I listened to was Oprah’s. I mean, she’s such a motivational woman and she often interviews people that are equally inspiring, right? Well, I came across this particular podcast, a series, in fact, of herself and Eckhart Tolle discussing his new book, A New Earth. They went into some detail about every chapter in the book. I listened intently to every episode and loved it so much that I bought the book from The Book Depository (I buy lots of books from them because they don’t charge postage—which means the books take longer to arrive but that usually doesn’t bother me. If I need it sooner, I’ll buy it from Amazon or elsewhere).

My spiritual journey

But, like I said, it wasn’t until this year when my spiritual journey truly began that I started reading some ‘deep’ books that I’ve collected over the years. I’m not sure what kicked it off, perhaps it was the chaos of 2020, I don’t really know. I’m glad I did, though, because things have started to change for me—in the spiritual, inner world, sense, anyway.

But back to Eckhart Tolle and his book, A New Earth. The idea behind the book seems like such a simple one—one that we could all at least try to follow. If you can become conscious of your thoughts, then you can change your life. Obviously, there’s way more to it than that, but that is the main aspect, in a nutshell.

It sounds so simple, and it can be—if you’re willing to try. I started to do this last year, after listening to the podcast (and before reading the book) and I noticed such a difference to the quality of my life almost immediately. It allowed me to really take notice of what kinds of thoughts were going through my mind. I started stopping myself whenever a negative thought would rear its ugly head. Basically, I started to turn my mind around. And reading the book this year in its entirety, has strengthened the way I think. I no longer allow my thoughts to rule my life. After all, it is only a thought and a thought can be changed (something I learned from Louise Hay).

No matter where you are in your life right now, I cannot recommend this book enough. It will change your life for the better—if you’re willing to give it a try. However, as with all books of this nature, it has to be the right time. I would suggest you buy the book, keep it and when you’re ready, you’ll know. If we could all read A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle at some point in our lives, then I truly believe that we will create a new Earth. And isn’t that worth a try?

A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle

“A wake-up call for the entire planet . . . [A New Earth] helps us to stop creating our own suffering and obsessing over the past and what the future might be, and to put ourselves in the now.” –Oprah Winfrey

With his bestselling spiritual guide The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle inspired millions of readers to discover the freedom and joy of a life lived “in the now.” In A New Earth, Tolle expands on these powerful ideas to show how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world. Tolle describes how our attachment to the ego creates the dysfunction that leads to anger, jealousy, and unhappiness, and shows readers how to awaken to a new state of consciousness and follow the path to a truly fulfilling existence. Illuminating, enlightening, and uplifting, A New Earth is a profoundly spiritual manifesto for a better way of life–and for building a better world.
