A to Z Blogging Challenge: I for Imagination

Imagination

Imagination has always been my secret superpower. From a young age, I’ve had an overactive imagination, one that weaves stories, conjures worlds, and sometimes even gets a little spooky when I’m alone in the house. But honestly, I wouldn’t change it for anything. It’s one of the things that’s shaped me as a writer and a creator, and it’s an essential part of my daily life.

Imagination isn’t just for children or artists. It’s a powerful tool that we all carry within us, whether we’re conscious of it or not. It can help us solve problems, spark creativity, and even shift our perspective on the world. For me, it’s a bit like a magical wand—when I let my mind wander, I often stumble upon surprising ideas and new ways of thinking. Sometimes, it leads to creative breakthroughs for my writing, my videos, and even my personal growth. But other times? It just leads to me imagining the occasional ghost in the hallway when I’m home alone…!

In fact, I’ve had some pretty funny and spooky moments with my imagination over the years. Like the time Michael and I were driving along, and I spotted what looked like an old haggard witch standing by the side of the road. As we got closer, it turned out to be a bin bag blowing in the wind. Or the time I swore I saw a rabbit, like something straight out of Alice in Wonderland, only to realise it was just a tree stump! There was also that moment when Michael’s surfing wetsuit was hanging on the curtain rail, and it scared the living daylights out of me because I thought it was a person (the image below is a hilarious and veyr imaginative AI creation!!). It’s these little (and sometimes creepy) moments that remind me of the magic we carry inside us, even if it’s just in the form of an overactive imagination.

But it’s not all about spooky surprises. Imagination has led me to create some of my favourite things. One of my most cherished moments of imagination happened in Canada when I sat on a huge piece of driftwood in Powell River. As I let my mind wander, I imagined vampires hiding in the trees, and that fleeting moment sparked an idea that led me to write The Raven Witch Saga. That story—and the entire series—was born from the kind of daydreaming we all do if we allow ourselves to be open to it. I’ve always believed that our imaginations are the doorway to new adventures, and sometimes, we only need to sit still and let our minds take us to unexpected places.

Imagination isn’t just for the fantastical either. It’s a tool that has shaped so much of what I do. Whether I’m writing, creating videos, or simply walking through the world, letting my mind wander has brought me so much inspiration and insight. I even shared some of this in a recent YouTube video, where I dive deeper into the power of imagination and how it’s impacted my journey as a writer, creator, and dreamer. If you’d like to hear more about my experiences and how you can tap into your own imagination, take a look at the video here: The Power of Imagination.

So, if you haven’t already, let your imagination run wild. Trust me, it’s one of the most powerful tools you have. Dream big, think creatively, and embrace the magic that’s all around you. And remember, as Dr. Seuss said, “I like nonsense; it wakes up the brain cells.” So, let’s wake up those brain cells together!
