There’s something about the supernatural that has always pulled me in. Maybe it’s because of my own experiences—those moments that make you question what’s real and what exists just beyond the veil. The supernatural isn’t just about ghosts and hauntings (though I do love a good ghost story!); it’s about the unseen forces that shape our lives, the mysteries that can’t always be explained, and the deep, unshakable feeling that there’s more to this world than meets the eye.
Personal Encounters with the Supernatural
I think my fascination with the supernatural really started when my mum passed away when I was 13. I felt her presence, usually at night when I was trying to sleep. At first, it scared the living daylights out of me—I mean, what 13-year-old wouldn’t be terrified? But when I finally talked to my dad about it, he reassured me there was nothing to be afraid of. He knew it was her, watching over me. And once I let go of that fear, it got easier. It became something comforting rather than something to be afraid of.

Then, years later, when we lost my late step-mother-in-law, I had another profound experience—one that I will never forget. In that moment, I am almost certain I saw her soul leave her body and intertwine with my late father-in-law, who had passed away six years earlier. It was so powerful, so deeply moving, that it left me in absolute awe. That experience solidified something for me: the supernatural isn’t just a concept—it’s something real, something felt.
The Spectral Side of the Supernatural

Of course, the supernatural world isn’t just about personal experiences—it’s also about the stories we tell, the myths and legends that have been passed down through generations. The spectral side of things, in particular, has always fascinated me. Ghosts, spirits, echoes of the past lingering in our world—there’s something hauntingly beautiful about it. Whether they’re lost souls seeking closure or protective spirits watching over us, the idea that we’re never truly alone is strangely comforting.
Supernatural Stories in TV and Film

It’s no surprise, then, that I love supernatural TV shows and movies—especially the ones that don’t just focus on ghosts but explore magic, hidden knowledge, and the unknown. The Librarians is one of those gems—packed with adventure, magical artifacts, and a whole lot of fun. Then there’s Haven, which plays with supernatural occurrences in such an intriguing way (is it really just a town cursed by “The Troubles”?). Lockwood & Co. had me completely hooked—teen ghost hunters with swords? Yes, please! I was gutted when it wasn’t picked up for another season. And, of course, we can’t talk about supernatural TV without mentioning Supernatural itself—because let’s be real, who doesn’t love the Winchester brothers? The mix of folklore, urban legends, and all that brotherly banter made it an absolute classic. And I can’t forget The Ghost Whisperer—one of my all-time favourite TV shows. The way it explored spirits, unfinished business, and that emotional connection between the living and the dead was just beautifully done.

Why the Supernatural Continues to Enchant Us

At its core, the supernatural is about mystery—it reminds us that there’s so much more to the world than what we can see and explain. It fuels our curiosity, ignites our imagination, and sometimes, it brings us comfort when we need it most. Whether it’s in personal experiences, folklore, or the TV shows and books we love, the supernatural keeps us questioning, wondering, and believing in the extraordinary.
So tell me, do you have any supernatural stories of your own? And what are your favourite supernatural TV shows or books? I’d love to hear all about them in the comments! Have you been following along with this year’s A to Z? If not, you can find the previous post, R is for Raven here.
