I was so excited when Shelbee chose the theme this month. Apocalyptic style is actually on my own list of possible themes for the future. Shelbee and I really do have the same taste and that’s just one of many things I love about her. But back to the theme: apocalyptic style. How would you interpret that? I chose to focus on the tough girl aspect.
So here’s my story… after the apocalypse, survivors have to be strong and tough. They’re fighting for survival so style has to be practical. Hence my choice of khaki combats, vest and boots – and the black hoodie lol!
When I initially thought about how to style this theme, I wanted to go a bit mad. A bit Thunderdome. But then I reeled myself back in, deciding against looking more fancy dress than apocalyptic style-inspired. I really like how it turned out. It’s tough. Edgy yet simplistic. It enabled me to look the part and also swing my axe and baseball bat – both essential items when you’re looking after numero uno, right? he he he.
The khaki combats have featured a couple of times on the blog. I bought them (from H&M) earlier this year and absolutely love them. They were my obvious choice right from the start of this apocalyptic style theme. The khaki vest is one of many that I have (luckily it was a really warm December day when we took these photos). I tend to buy vests from Primark and use them until they wear out. I’ve got tonnes in almost every colour! I’ve had the combat boots a few years and bought them from Seaside in Aqua. My black hoodie was from the kids dept in H&M and doesn’t get a lot of wear, to be honest. I’m generally not a hoodie wearing kinda gal.
As far as accessories were concerned, I decided a tough post-apocalyptic woman needed a practical bumbag (I think you call them fanny packs in the US which we Brits think is hilarious considering what that word means to us LOL!!!!). I bought this one on Black Friday from Mango and have been using it on my travels (I’m currently living it up in Ireland YAY!). It’s a great little bag although the zip tends to stick a bit. But it was only cheap so I shouldn’t expect much better.
Would a post-apocalyptic woman wear jewellery? Hmmm. Good question. I believe she would hang on to things that have sentimental value and then throw on as much stuff as possible to make her look a bit tougher. Hence the numerous cheap metal necklaces and far too many rings that she’s scavenged over the years.
I couldn’t wait to see how the rest of the Fab40s interpreted this mad apocalyptic style theme. And I certainly wasn’t disappointed. Just check out these gorgeous gals…
Shelbee from Shelbee on the Edge
Shelbee wouldn’t look amiss on The Walking Dead, would she? And I’m not talking about the zombies. I reckon she would scare the living daylights out of any zombie out there with that rifle!! I just LOVE her look for the theme which she so bravely chose lol! Not only that, but just look at the background – it’s like she’s in the real apocalypse lol. Shelbee, you rock!

I’ve long been a fan of Chrissy’s and I was really curious to see how she would style this theme and I must admit, I was quite surprised by how tough she looks! Usually, I consider her to be a little bit girlie – in a totally cool way – (a bit like Jennie, really) so this look is way cool!
Daenel from Living Outside the Stacks
We were worried for a while that Daenel from Living Outside the Stacks wouldn’t be able to feature this month due to some computer problems but she just managed last minute and she looks absolutely is awesome!
