Bag Obsession: from handcrafted treasures to essential backpacks

Collaborative Post

When it comes to bags, my love knows no bounds. Whether it’s a chic handbag, a sturdy backpack, or a stylish tote, each one holds a special place in my heart and wardrobe. Among my favourites are the unique, handmade creations gifted to me by my best pal, Sarah. These personalized treasures deserve their own spotlight, which I’ll delve into in a separate post soon. Today, let’s talk about the diverse world of bags and why I can never have enough of them.

The Practicality of Backpacks

While I tend to favour handbags for everyday use, backpacks have carved out a small niche in my collection for their practicality. They’re perfect for those moments when I need to carry a bit more than usual. For instance, when I’m out filming for my YouTube channel, a versatile backpack is indispensable. It comfortably accommodates my camera equipment, tripod, and all the little accessories that make vlogging a breeze. Plus, the hands-free nature of backpacks is a blessing when navigating busy streets or hiking trails.

Canvas Backpacks: The Go-To for Versatility

One type of bag that stands out is the canvas backpack. It’s not just functional but also incredibly stylish. Whether you’re heading to a casual outing or a weekend getaway, a canvas backpack can effortlessly match any look. Check out this collection of backpacks here for, example, for some fantastic options that blend utility with a touch of flair.

Handbags: The Everyday Essential

Handbags are my go-to for daily errands, coffee dates, and everything in between. Their variety in size, shape, and design means there’s always the perfect handbag for every occasion. From sleek crossbody bags to roomy totes, they add an element of style while keeping my essentials within arm’s reach.

My Current Favourites

  1. Small Totes: I adore smaller totes that act more like handbags. My favourite is a Marc Jacobs tote bag that Michael bought for me on our last trip to Switzerland (yes, the one I accidentally got covered in black grease DOH!). Now that it’s clean (ish) It’s the perfect blend of style and practicality.
  2. Crossbody Bags: Perfect for those days when you just need the basics. They’re compact, lightweight, and keep your hands free. I have quite a few!
  3. Bumbags: I know in the US they’re called Fanny Packs but we English find that hilarious (you’ll just have to Google the meaning of the word to see why LOL!). I love being hands-free and also free of shoulder pressure, so they’re perfect for that.
  4. Evening Clutches: For special nights out, a glittery clutch adds that perfect touch of glamour.

Specialized Bags for Specific Needs

Beyond the everyday essentials, certain bags are designed for specific purposes. For instance, my husband swears by a sturdy backpack when he’s off on a motorcycle track day. It’s not just about style; it’s about functionality and reliability, ensuring his basic gear stays secure and organized.

Favourite Online Retailers

If you’re as obsessed with bags as I am, here are a few of my favourite online retailers to check out:

  • Parfois: They often have small handbags with wide straps, the ultimate in comfort.
  • Teddy Blake: They make the most beautiful classic leather handbags. I have two beauties from them that I absolutely adore.
  • Etsy: For unique, handmade creations, Etsy is a treasure trove.
  • Kipling: Their bumbags are fabulous.
  • Desigual: Two words—colourful and unique!
