We’re a small group of bloggers, the Fab40s, who get together on the last Monday of each month to play dress up! Last month our theme was polka dots. We take it in turns to choose a fun theme for the post and this month Shelbee chose ‘birds of a feather’. I immediately knew how I was going to interpret this theme…with the most fabulous handbag!
The handbag in question is made of feathers, black ostrich feathers, so I figured I would go for a bit of a rock chick look. That’s all I knew until I started raiding my wardrobe last week. I tried a couple of things but they weren’t quite right with the feathered bag until I stumbled across this sweater. It was a gift from my mother-in-law about five years ago—the Christmas we flew to Washington. I remember that because I have a photo of me wearing it in the hotel for New Year’s Eve. Anyway, the sweater is quite fluffy and resembles feathery fabric (from a distance lol), it’s really soft and comfy. As soon as I put it together with the bag, it seemed like the perfect combination. One of the things I love about the sweater is that it looks like it’s been tie-dyed. Cool, right?
I bought these white loose fit jeans from Massimo Dutti a couple of years ago. It was one of those perfect moments where this was the last pair and they were my size YAY! They fit so perfectly, they could have been made for me. And the boots…well, I treated myself to them quite a few years ago and they really are one of my favourite things. Aren’t they stunning? They’re so rock chick, right? Unfortunately, they’re not the most comfortable boots in my wardrobe, so I don’t wear them as much as I’d like.
I finished off this ‘birds of a feather’ look with a long black necklace, some black crystal bracelets, a couple of rock chick rings (!), my black Citizen watch and these fabulous winged earrings. I realise I haven’t talked about my Citizen watches before. I’m literally obsessed with this brand. They’re the only watch brand I buy for myself, mainly because they’re ‘Eco-Drive’, so they’re powered by light and don’t need batteries. I have four of them. My most recent purchase was in France and before that Michael bought me this black one for my birthday when we were last in New York. I’ve just been having a little look on their website and there’s a few I’ve got my eye on lol. I shall have to drop a few hints to Michael! That’s one thing he does like to buy… watches. He’s a man obsessed! It’s not just him, it’s his best pal too. They can literally talk about watches for hours. Drives me nuts sometimes. I keep telling them they should start a YouTube channel about their three passions: watches, motorbikes and cycling. It would be hilarious. The ones liners and silliness that come out of their mouths…! But I’ve gone off on a tangent haven’t I. Where was I? Oh yeah, ‘birds of a feather’. What I was going to say is that I really love dressing like this, as if I’m going to see Def Leppard in concert or something lol. I think I’m showing my age now! I do really like Deff Leppard though lol.
Anyway, that’s my Fab40s look for this month, let’s check out the other gals and see how they’ve interpreted this fun theme!

Daenel, Living Outside the Stacks
Daenel’s outfit this month has such a lovely story attached to it. I’ll let her tell it, “Soooo, I think you guys know I have a twin sister. She’s my “Wombmate” and lately we’ve been flocking to a website called Three Birds Nest and ended up buying the same shirt and dressing in coordinating colors. We’ve never been “those” twins so this is all new to us. Especially since we live 5 hours apart.” Isn’t that amazing?
And they both look absolutely beautiful!
Shelbee also had a touch of serendipity to her post this month. Again, I’ll let you tell the story herself, “I recently ordered a new bra from Poshmark and the package arrived today. I was super excited but when I opened it, I discovered they sent me this red and black feathered fascinator by mistake! (It is literally the same shape as a folded up bra! Haha) I am in the process of facilitating the return because I really want my bra, but the hat was perfect for my outfit, so I “borrowed” it for the photoshoot! How’s that for serendipity!”
And she’s teamed the fascinator with a gorgeous swan-print dress that look just perfect together!
And me…
