Black Witch Magic Synopsis
Selene Blackstone spends her days camped out in library corners with her nose glued to books. In a town like Brimrock, where she’s an outcast, she prefers her book friends to her real-life enemies. They’re a lot less judgmental. The rest of town believes she descends from a family of witches—including her evil witch grandma, Luna. In this case, the truth is stranger than fiction. She is a witch, and she’s cursed for all of eternity. Good thing her to-be-read list is pretty long…
Prickly Paranormal Investigator Aiden O’Hare speaks two languages: sarcasm and more sarcasm. He travels the country—and sometimes even the world—investigating strange phenomena with his best friend, Cory. Their investigations bring them to a cozy New England town called Brimrock, home to fabled evil witch Luna Blackstone. Armed with his dry wit, his bibliophilic love for books, and far too much free time, he’s determined to find out just what happened to Luna…
When Aiden meets Selene, he decides he must get to know her. When Selene learns Aiden is in town investigating her grandma, she knows she must stop him. He’s out to expose the truth. She’s out to keep it a secret. Neither expects to fall under each other’s spell, but sometimes love is supernatural.

“Selene!” he yelled fruitlessly. His own echo played back to him in the quiet New England town. “Now you’re being difficult on purpose.”
She frolicked over a snow hill, challenging him to a cat and mouse chase. He sighed and cussed under his breath. She knew him all too well. Of course he would follow.
This time, though, he would beat her at her own game. He used his long legs and broader reach to his advantage. In what took her four strides to crest the hill, he took two. She yelped as he surprised her from behind, hooking an arm around her waist to grab ahold of her.
Aiden lost his balance, so she lost her balance. They came crashing down like two hopeless klutzes, tumbling down the snowy hill. He lost count of how many times they rolled, but locked in a clumsy embrace, they shrieked as clumps of raw snow smacked into them. The snow got everywhere, into his mouth, caked in his hair, coating his eyelashes, and invasively down his trousers.
By the time they slid to a halt they were gasping for breath, laughing so hard it was a full body experience. Tears formed in his eyes and he choked on air. At his side, Selene tipped her head backward into the snow and clutched her stomach as if it pained her. They looked a mess, covered in an avalanche of snow.
He wiped his eye with his thumb and sat up. “I can’t believe you did that.”
She sat up beside him and fixed her glasses. Her once-raven curls were snow white. “It was your fault.”
“Mine? How does that work? I was trying to stop you.”
“Exactly why it was your fault,” she replied with another airy laugh. And then she twisted and surprised him with a kiss full on the mouth.
His hands rose instinctively to cradle her face. She tasted like gin and…snow? The crisp taste was a strange delight. It was another reminder, along with the cold tips of their noses and flakes of snow in their lashes, of the unexpected moment between them. The second night in a row where he gladly felt Selene Blackstone’s soft lips against his own.
“You taste like snow,” Selene mumbled with a slow smile.
“It might have something to do with us being knee-deep in it.”
His dry delivery earned another breathless giggle out of her. Neither made any attempt to get up, their bodies adjusting to the icy cold as they sat there in the snow. It was then that the neon glow from above seemed noticeably brighter. Their eyes flitted up to the red and green lights strung along the street lamps. Other holiday decorations hung too, depending on the post. Everything from wreaths to velvet bows to—
“Mistletoe,” Aiden said aloud. He shared in a laugh with Selene before they kissed again.
As if enchanted, the dangling Christmas lights started blinking. The bright red and green looked like tiny, twinkling sparks out of the corner his eye, and as they broke apart for another fond look at each other, he couldn’t help buying into the surreal element. He was the last man on earth to believe in silly notions like special inklings or cosmic signs, but yet here he was, experiencing just that with Selene.
It was the alcohol, he decided. He brushed an errant curl behind her ear and convinced himself it had to be the gin. And the beer and whatever else they had downed that night. There was no other explanation for the bizarre feelings being stirred up. A warmth lit up inside of him and radiated from limb to limb, leaving him flushed and light-headed.
Aiden had already learned Selene was a special woman, but tonight felt like something else entirely. He couldn’t look away from her if he tried. Her eyes were like the dark side of the moon, dreamy and full with only a slight shine reflecting in them. If he didn’t know any better, she was aware of the moment. The odd energy suddenly swirling in the air as he gave in to her bewitching trance.
The last thing he remembered was the corner of her lips curling into a smile as she leaned forward and distracted him with another kiss. Very special woman indeed.
