This week’s Style Imitating Art inspiration piece is Booky by Patty Carroll, created in 2017. Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar (14 Shades of Grey), Terri (Meadow Tree Style), and Daenel (Living Outside the Stacks). Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of the hosts selects an inspiration image and they each post the image on their blogs. The following Monday they share their art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits with the curator by 10pm Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog. This week, the curator is Terri. For the last Style Imitating Art challenge, we styled Heather, Sweet Peas and Butterfly, created in the 19th century by an anonymous British artist.

So, please click on this link to see the full image of Booky by Patty Carroll. This is probably one of my favourite pieces of art in the Style Imitating Art series this year. I adore the quirkiness of it. It’s just so unusual and and I love the retro vibe it has. Styling an outfit based on this piece was quite the challenge though! I knew I wanted to incorporate a slight ‘prim and proper’ edge to it so I decided to wear a skirt and cardigan.
Ideally, I’d have worn a skirt in a darker shade of red to mimic the curtains, but this one is all I have so it just had to do. Gazing at Booky by Patty Carroll made certain colours pop out to me—red, orange, beige, pink and green (oh, and the grey of certain books). Do you see the same colours? So, I chose the red skirt, a very pale pinky-beige top, orange cardigan, pink handbag and beige sandals (and a grey book!). I added hints of green with my bracelet and ring, orange earrings and a pearl necklace to add a little more of that primness I was looking for. All in all, the outfit came out quite well. I love that my glasses have a slight 50s / 60s vibe too.
