FAB40s August theme: Bucket List inspired outfit
The Fab 40’s is a group of five fashion bloggers from around the globe. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger who is also in their 40’s to join us. This group’s goal is to take on style trends and show how we each interpret and incorporate them into our own lives. With five widely varied views, you are certain to find something that speaks to you each month and encourages you to continue to have fun with fashion after the age of 40.

This month, the theme was to dress using inspiration from one of our bucket list countries. I knew almost straight away what country I would pick. Can you guess?
No? No idea? Ok… here’s a clue…
Yes, you’ve got it. Egypt! Egypt has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember. In school, when I was a little girl, I fell in love with the ancient Egyptians and I sooo wanted to be Cleopatra lol. Then later, during my A level studies, I was reminded how much I loved all things Egyptian while reading Shakespeare’s Antony and Cleopatra. And this year, we’ve been watching a lot of documentaries on the Gaia website, some of which talk about the ancient Egyptians and how incredible they really were. I still think they might have been some kind of alien race lol 😉
My bucket list
Therefore, Egypt seemed like the logical choice for my bucket list outfit. As keen travellers, we’ve actually already visited many of my other bucket list places like the US, Canada, Ireland, Scotland & Germany. Naturally, there are many other places on my bucket list that I could have been inspired by. Japan, for instance, but the Fab40s covered Japan’s Harajuku style a few months ago. Peru is another but I knew I had nothing in my wardrobe even remotely similar to the national Peruvian dress, which is so colourful!
Since starting my spiritual journey, I’ve realised I’d also like to add many of the sacred sites around the world (like Machu Picchu in Peru) to my bucket list. I haven’t put together a list yet but I plan to. We’ve already visited Stonehenge but it’s somewhere I’d love to return to, perhaps for summer solstice one of these years.
Black and gold
But enough about that, let me tell you a little bit about the outfit. I chose black and gold because I could totally imagine Cleopatra wearing those colours, particularly a long black robe with lots of golden embellishments. As I didn’t quite have a robe as such, nor embellishments of her high standards, I settled for a long strapless dress from George at Asda (from 4 or 5 years ago) and a pair of black and gold sandals bought from a local shoe shop. I would have worn a gold belt had I had one, but I don’t so I settled with the little black ‘rope’ that came with the dress.
As for my gold jewellery, almost all of it was given to me by my wonderful mother-in-law. The only exception being the tiger bracelet which I inherited from my late stepmother-in-law. You see the little gold ‘bracelet’ that I’m wearing on my upper arm? That’s actually an ankle bracelet!
Gold Gel Polish
Almost forgot to mention the gel nail polish. I bought this one specifically for this month’s Fab40s. I knew I wanted to wear gold and, considering I’ve been doing my own gel nails this summer, I went online and bought this beautiful shade of gold from Mylee. Isn’t it gorgeous? I’m delighted with it. I also bought some really dark, witchy shades but I’ll talk about them in a future post.
I had intended to have poker straight hair for this look, so I did use my hair straighteners beforehand, but the wind wouldn’t let me have the Egyptian look I’d planned lol. However, perhaps next week I might be able to create that look because I think I’m going to have a fringe (bangs) again. But I’m still undecided. I guess you’ll find out next week after I’ve visited my stylist lol!
Now, let’s see what bucket list countries the rest of the Fab40s gals chose…
Shelbee, Shelbee on the Edge
I absolutely LOVE that Shelbee chose the UK for her bucket list. And that she was inspired by the punk subculture that was born in 1970’s London. She’s nailed it completely with her biker boots, fishnets and plaid. Freaking love this, Shelbee!

Sheela, Sheela Goh
Sheela has been inspired “by Brazil which, at this time of the year, is winter 🙂 hence the layers. The frills and the sleek leather evoke that sexy yet very womanly allure of their Winter street style.” And she is totally rocking it. Aren’t those books freaking gorgeous?
Daenel, Living Outside the Stacks
Sadly, Daenel is unable to join us this month on account of the terrible aftermath of Hurricane Laura. Sending hugs to you Daenel xx
Ada, Elegance & Mommyhood
Our fabulous new member, Ada, is looking gorgeous in her Spain-inspired outfit. She loves the colours, food, drinks, flavours, music, cultures, dances and festivals among other things and I can totally get why she wants to visit. I live right next to Spain and don’t visit anywhere near enough. I really should change that!
