Whilst spending a week in Anglesey, we decided a trip to Caernarfon Castle was an absolute must – after all, it is the place used for the investiture of Prince Charles back in 1969. Okay, so maybe that’s not the real reason we wanted to visit lol. It’s a castle and like I mentioned before, I just love visiting castles 😀 We certainly weren’t disappointed – this is a gorgeous Medieval fortress which is perhaps even more impressive than Conwy (which was possibly due its location on the water) where we visited just days before.
The actual town of Caernarfon is really pretty too – and I imagine it’s a super place to visit in the summer months. We were absolutely freezing but it didn’t dampen our enthusiasm as we strolled around this amazing piece of history.
Speaking of history, we managed to warm up inside the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum which is situated within the walls of the castle and it was really quite fascinating – with numerous exhibits to keep you entertained for quite some time.
As we wandered outside (but within the castle walls), we were absolutely amazed at some of the staggeringly beautiful landscapes that could be seen beyond. If you want to be impressed by some Welsh countryside, then Caernarfon Castle is the place to do it. With Snowdonia as the backdrop, it is incredible. My photos really don’t do it justice. Now would be a good time to mention that the castle is also part of the World Heritage Site ‘Castles and Town Walls of King Edward in Gwynedd’. I’d certainly recommend a visit if you’re ever in the area.
