Combats and denim and the meaning of life… I’ve been thinking a lot lately. You know, those deep thoughts about the meaning of life and stuff? Where I am right now. Am I happy? What do I want to change and so on. I am happy (in case you’re wondering), and there are changes afoot what with the building of our new house, for example. And no, we still haven’t started.
There is so much building happening over here in the Algarve at the moment, that it’s difficult to find suitable contractors to make a start on the structural work. But, we are very fortunate to be living in a beautiful, and comfortable, house so we’re not in any hurry to get it all done. It will be nice though… to have our dream house. I am excited, yet I am also patient. Funny really, because I’m not particularly known for my patience lol!
Happiness
As for other things in my life, I’m very happy in my relationship with hubby. I have three adorable cats who I just adore. (They’re my babies.) If you’re not a regular reader, you might not be aware that I’m not a mother but you can read my post about that here. I also have two dogs that we love but they do drive us crazy jumping over the fence and running off. I think deep down, we are definitely more cat people!
Perhaps I’m thinking about all this stuff because it’s getting closer to Christmas. Not having kids during the festive season sometimes makes me wonder about how different life could have been. I do love to watch the awe on children’s faces when they see Father Christmas, for example! I particularly miss my brother and sister and their kids at this time of year too, and it makes me wish I lived closer to them. I’ve been watching a lot of UK TV lately too which always makes me miss it even more. How green it always is, all those fabulous old English villages, amazing cathedrals and castles, and parks, and how warm everybody’s home is… not to mention the shopping 😉
My career
Career wise, I wish it wasn’t so tough to make a living writing books. I’ve self published twelve novels to date – all of which get great reviews but sales are rubbish. Amazon continue to change algorithms and such like, which seems to affect sales – sometimes positively but mostly negatively (I really don’t understand any of that to be honest). I would love to be in the right place at the right time and suddenly find that my books sales are going through the roof a la JK Rowling or EL James and, being a Capricorn, I never give up hope that it will happen! Check out my latest novel, Aphrodite’s Closet, if you want to help 😉 and don’t forget to read the reviews!
In the meantime, I continue to write – both books and blog – and I continue to love doing it. I thoroughly enjoy sharing my outfits with you and have become very comfortable in front of the camera. Some people might consider it somewhat narcissistic to take so many photos of myself and put them online, but I don’t really care what people think, to be honest! It’s my blog and it’s fun. Not to mention the fact that my style has improved since launching this blog. It makes me push myself out of my comfort zone. Remember this post when I literally posed in lingerie? Or this one when I wore every colour in the rainbow? And then last week I wore tight dungarees with a sheer lace top beneath it. Another particular favourite was the time that I was inspired by fairytales! All really fun outfits to put together (or not, as the lingerie case was lol).
Combats (again!)
The outfit you see here is pretty low key in comparison, but it’s the kind of outfit I love, because I adore combats and I adore khaki! These funky wedge floral trainers were a gift from a friend and this is the first time I’ve worn them. They’re great, aren’t they? She bought them for herself over a year ago but passed them on to me (I can’t remember why she didn’t want them). I think they look great with the combats, don’t you? The bag is a cheap and cheerful one that I picked up from Primark a few months ago – purely because I loved the colour (I’m so predictable!) and the earrings are one of three pairs that I have in this style – a green pair (pictured), a pink pair and a multi-coloured pair. I love how girlie they are.
But that’s enough of what’s going on in my head at the moment. How does this time of year affect you?
