My Review
I’ve just finished reading Coming Home to the Highlands by Lisa Hobman and it’s a must-read!
The story follows Liv MacBain, a young woman born into a Scottish clan and the 17th century ancestral home, Drumblair Castle. However, Liv always had dreams of leaving the castle and pursuing a career in fashion. Despite being the younger sibling, her older brother Kerr is the rightful heir to the castle, which has allowed Liv to chase her dreams and explore the world of haute couture.
Fast forward to the present, and Liv is now 28 years old, living in New York, and working at a high-end fashion house. Everything seems to be going great for her, until she receives a phone call from her brother that forces her to return to Scotland. What follows is a story of Liv trying to balance her love for fashion with her family responsibilities and her connection to her ancestral home.
One of the things that I loved about this book is the way that the author, Lisa Hobman, writes. She has a beautiful way with words that draws you into the story and makes you feel like you are right there with Liv as she navigates her way through the challenges she faces.
Liv is relatable and likeable, and I found myself rooting for her throughout the book. She is faced with difficult decisions that force her to question what is most important to her, and her journey of self-discovery is both inspiring and heartwarming.
However, no story is complete without a good antagonist, and in this case, there is a character who is just plain horrible. I won’t give away any spoilers, but suffice it to say that this character adds an extra layer of tension and conflict to the story, and keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Overall, Coming Home to the Highlands is a beautifully written, engaging, and thought-provoking book that explores themes of family, tradition, and pursuing your passions. It is a story that will stay with you long after you have turned the final page. Highly recommended!
