Wearing culottes with the Fab 40s
It’s that time of the month again. No… not that. It’s the Fab 40s! YAY! A small group of us (fabulous) bloggers in our forties choose a theme for the last Monday of every month. We then create an outfit using that particular theme. This month it’s all about culottes – an item of clothing I really disliked up until I started blogging. Yet I still seem to only have one pair!
And that pair is in denim. Who’d have thought, eh? If you’re not a regular reader, you probably won’t be aware that I have a bit of a thing for denim. I’ve got tonnes of pair of jeans in my wardrobe. Their versatility is what I love the most.
Denim culottes
Denim culottes though – they’re another thing altogether. Not as easy to dress as regular jeans, denim culottes did demand a little bit of extra imagination. I’ve worn them on the blog twice before. Once with Converse and once with knee high boots. All I knew was that I wanted to wear something different. So I decided to go with these brown leather heels that I’ve had for ages. They’re a comfortable height so can be worn for a little bit of walking which is always a good thing. I do like the distressed look to them. They were bought from Seaside Portugal, a large shoe shop here.
I bought the culottes for an absolute steal in Stradivarius – I can’t remember how much they cost but I’m pretty sure it was under 10 euros in the summer sale. A good bargain is fab, isn’t it?
Suedette Top
As for my top, I chose this brown, fringed, suedette top that I bought when I first started this blog. In fact, it was one of the first things I wore here. My photos are awful though lol! The top came from a Chinese store here in the Algarve and would you believe this is the second time I’ve worn it? It’s a little heavy so it’s too warm to wear in the heat of the summer, and because it’s very short, it’s too cold to wear in winter! Perhaps I should try it over the top of something?
I love a chunky necklace and this one spoke to me when I spotted it on a market stall several years ago. It was only 3 euros! Like I said, I love a good bargain 😉 I can’t remember where I bought the earrings but I know I fell in love with their native American feel. Plus the fact that they jingle a tiny bit when I move which is fun.
My clutch was a gift from hubby on my 40th birthday. It’s from Ted Baker and I adore it. You can never go wrong with a hint (or a lot!) of animal print, can you?
But that’s enough of my outfit. Let’s see what the other gorgeous gals have come up with this month…
Sheela of Sheela Goh
Sheela never disappoints with her incredibly beautiful photos every month and this April is no exception. She is also the queen of boots (as well as shorts) – this woman has some serious shoes in her life. These white beauties are utter perfection, and don’t they look amazing with the black and white striped culottes? Gorgeous!
Jennie of A Pocketful of Polka Dots
This is one of my absolute favourite photos of Jennie. I just think she looks so gorgeous and happy. She’s completely pulled off the culottes look perfectly – I love the stripes combined with those gorgeous black heels and off the shoulder black top. Beautiful!
