Fab40s: This month we’re all wearing cut offs

It’s the last Monday of the month, which can only mean one thing. The Fab 40s are back again! We’re a group of women in our forties who blog once a month with a particular theme. I’ve been having such a blast since I was invited to join this awesome group earlier this year. We’ve blogged about velvet, statement tees, the colours of the rainbow and we’ve even been inspired by fairytales! This month though, it’s all about cut offs.

Cut offs

Cut offs

Before we go on, I should say, cut offs are not a particular favourite of mine. Well, not to wear out of the house anyway. I often chop off the bottom of my jeans when I’m fed up with them (or if I’ve stained them!) and wear the resulting cut offs to veg out in. There are many women out there who wear cut offs and look amazing (see the Fab 40s gals below for perfect examples of this). Me, on the other hand, feel a bit dowdy in them. Actually, I feel a bit dowdy in most shorts to be honest. I just don’t like my legs so I tend to hide them whenever possible! Hence the length of my cut offs!

Cut offs

But enough of me moaning about what I don’t like about myself. Cut offs was the theme, and that’s what I had to style. I know, I know – I could have just cut off a pair of jeans into a pair of culottes, or a skirt into something a little shorter. But I was determined to try and find a way to style my denim cut offs to make me feel a little less dowdy. I hope I’ve succeeded here. What do you think?

My outfit

Cut offs

I knew I wanted to wear these Levis that I cut up a few years ago. My crochet cardigan was also something I wanted to wear. The boho look was clearly the way to go. I had fully intended to wear a long boho-styled necklace with this but when I put it on, it just clashed with the print of the vest top. So I settled on a simple tree necklace instead (bought, exceedingly cheap a few years ago – probably because it’s just metal and will probably go rusty if I wear it too long lol!). The wedge sandals are from Aldo and help to define my calves a little better (always a good idea when wearing shorts).

Cut ofs

As for the vest top, this is actually a cut off as well. I bought it from H&M several years ago. When I bought it, it was a body suit. However, its’ poppers were in such an uncomfortable place that I chopped the bottom half off altogether. So, you could say I’m wearing two cut offs today!

But enough about me and my outfit. Let’s see what the other Fab 40s gals have in store for us ….

Sheela of Sheela Writes

Cut offs

Sheela is the queen of shorts. She has killer legs and always wears the most divine shoes and boots. I LOVE the way she’s styled her shorts this month with such a gorgeous blouse.

This month, Jennie is rivalling Sheela for Queen of shorts, isn’t she? I mean, look at those shapely legs! I’m so envious of both her and Sheela for having such gorgeous pins (that’s legs for anyone that doesn’t know!). I’m totally in love with this outfit!

And our fabulous guest this month: Monika of Style is My Pudding

Cut offs

Monika has such an amazing, unique style and I’m not just talking about her stunning bright pink hair! This month she’s rocking the cut off denim skirt and looks gorgeous. I reckon Monika is the queen of boho – she could quite easily rival Kate Moss and Sienna Miller, right?
Monika’s outfit is mostly “old” (purchased several years ago) except for her blouse, which she picked up at Forever 21 this past spring.

And me, gazing out at a field of dreams…
