Style Imitating Art: Decline of the Day by Emperor Ham Nghi & link-up

Decline of the Day

Just a little note…this was supposed to go live on Tuesday but for some reason, it didn’t and, because I was living it up with my best pals, I didn’t even notice! So I figured I would share it today for the Neverending Style link-up…This week’s Style Imitating Art inspiration piece is Emperor Ham Nghi‘s Decline of the Day. Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar (14 Shades of Grey), Terri (Meadow Tree Style) and their brand new co-host Shelbee (Shelbee on the Edge). Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of the hosts selects an inspiration image and they each post the image on their blogs. The following Monday they share their art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits with the curator by 10pm Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog. This week, the curator is Salazar and you can read all about why she chose this piece of artwork by clicking right here.

Decline of the Day is such a serene painting, isn’t it? It’s really rather beautiful and I must admit I thought I was going to struggle using it as inspiration for my outfit this week. However, when it came to it, I just gazed at it for a while and the look just slowly came together.

My first thought was green—of course, considering I’m a total green fanatic. Did you know my maiden name is Greenwood lol! So, back to the outfit. I knew that green would be my base colour so I decided on this gorgeous green blouse from Stradivarius. I’ve actually got two of these. The other one is a slightly deeper shade of emerald green. This one was a Christmas gift from our close friends. They know all about my green obsession, considering they also bought me a green purse too!

With it, I figured I should bring in the browns from the painting, so I added that in these tweed trousers that I bought from John Lewis several years ago. They looked better on me back then because I was a bit slimmer lol. I do prefer looser fitting trousers, don’t you? But as long as I can still get in them, I will continue to wear them!

It was then that I realised there was quite a lot of orangey reds in the image, so I pulled them into this look with this colourful scarf (a gift from another good friend), and the amazing long coat which was gifted to me a few years ago from Alice’s Pig. It’s a total dream, isn’t it? I love how much fabric there is. It’s the perfect coat for swishing, right? And the inside of it is in the most beautiful shade of bluey-teal, perfect to recreate those blue tones in Decline of the Day. Speaking of blue tones, I added the pale blue handbag (a gift from my MIL) for a little something extra. I wasn’t entirely sure what footwear would look good with this outfit, until I remembered the grey ankle boots from Calla. As soon as I put them on, I felt the outfit was complete. I love how this look turned out and I think it reflects the painting rather well, although it’s not giving me serenity though lol. It’s just making me want to twirl like a little girl. Oh what fun!

It’s not Tuesday 1st March and I’ve just realised I completely forgot to add the code for the link-up! Such an idiot!! Here it is….it’ll be open until Friday lol!! DOH!!
