Michael and I LOVE Indian food, we cook it ourselves probably 3 or 4 times a week (okay, I’ll re-phrase that, Michael cooks it 3 or 4 times a week) and we will always jump at the chance of eating it out. So we were very lucky to be invited to the Raj restaurant last weekend. Located at the Holiday Inn in Armação de Pêra, the Raj is perfectly situated to take advantage of the most beautiful views along the beach – provided it’s warm enough to dine on the terrace.
Before browsing the menu, we enjoyed the yummy poppadoms and accompanying sauces which were particularly deep in flavour. I must say I was really impressed with the menu – there’s a huge range of foods on offer and each dish is described to perfection (I do like an in-depth menu!).
As we don’t eat much meat at home, I often choose meaty dishes when we go out for dinner so I opted for the Meat Samosas, followed by Balti Lamb while Michael chose the Onion Bhajis (as always) followed by Chicken Jalfrezi, all of which were very tasty. Oh, I mustn’t forget the Garlic Naan Bread, that was delicious. Unfortunately, we were way too full to try any of the desserts on offer though.
The staff were particularly attentive and answered all of our questions about the food and we were even invited into the kitchen to take a look at the clay oven which was fascinating, especially for foodie Michael! All in all, we had a really lovely evening and I look forward to returning to the Raj in future.
