Eating healthily: morning smoothies with supergreens powder

Eating healthily

If you’re a regular reader, you’re probably aware that hubby and I are very much into eating healthily. Actually, hubby is a bit more obsessed about it, whereas I’m a bit more chilled ie. you’re more likely to find me tucking into the odd chocolate bar! But seriously, I do love trying out healthy products that not only taste good, but also help to motivate me to be even healthier.

Eating Healthily

That’s exactly what I’ve found with Indigo Herbs, who very kindly sent me some Organic Supergreeens Powder to try out. Hubby and I have both been eating healthily by supercharging our breakfasts, adding it to our daily morning smoothies. I wouldn’t say it tasted good on its own, but added to a smoothie, especially a green one, it adds a healthy taste to it, if that makes sense!

Eating healthily

My favourite breakfast smoothie consists of a banana, some gluten-free oats, half a teaspoon of Organic Supergreens Powder and some almond or coconut milk. When I fancy something a little more chocolatey, I add a spoonful of raw cocoa powder. Or, if I’m being ultra healthy, I’ll add a large handful of fresh spinach to the mix. All of which are delicious and make me feel like I’m eating healthily first thing in the morning.

This particular Supergreens Powder is a blend of the following organic powders: wheatgrass, barley grass, spirulina, chlorella and moringa. It is blended to offer the best nutritional value for the human body. High in antioxidant vitamins and minerals – containing a wide range of B spectrum vitamins. When you drink it, you really feel like you’re doing your body a favour!

It can also be added to soups and stews, but, to be honest, we haven’t tried that yet but we will certainly will be giving that a go at some stage. Probably sooner rather than later, because it’s soup weather at the moment! We’ve been in dire need of some rain and finally, it has come. And, apparently it’s going to rain for at least two weeks YAY! (I do love the rain).

Indigo Herbs is such a great website to check out – not only do they sell a wide variety of healthy products, but they also feature some really useful articles like how to use essential oils, how to make raw chocolate, how to blend and use incense, for example.

Here is what Indigo Herbs say:

At Indigo Herbs we think the path to health starts with taking responsibility for your body, mind and soul. The second step is making the change by working some healthy routines into your daily lifestyle.  We are right there to help you with that, as we supply a broad and unique range of quality products to include in your daily lifestyle, from breakfast, lunch and dinner, to everything in between.

My path to eating healthily

My path to eating healthily started over six years ago when a particularly heavy period led me to do a raw food cleanse. I’d basically had enough of suffering, so hubby and I did a little research and I began my journey by cutting out sugar, caffeine, alcohol, processed foods and even cooked foods for a week. I ate nothing but raw vegetables and fruit and drank only water and herbal teas.

It was a bit drastic, I know, but it did wonders for me at the time. Over a period of months, I slowly started to add some of the not so good stuff back into my diet though. But, on the whole, we do stick to eating healthily. You might remember that I quit alcohol back in October? I’ll be writing an update on that in the next few weeks so keep your eyes peeled. For now though, I highly recommend you check out Indigo Herbs. Don’t let the name fool you, it’s not just herbs that they sell, they also have a wide variety of other products including herbal tinctures & powders, raw seed & nut butters, free-from baking range, vegan protein powders, herbal teas and more.
