I’ve never actually been to a big music festival, although I’ve visited a couple of smaller ones here in the Algarve. Festivals, for me, tend to be medieval festivals or just the local town’s event. I’ve always had a bit of a thing against crowds so I tend to just avoid them! However, I’m not completely averse to the idea, so when Covid finally dies down and the world returns to normal, perhaps I’ll put my brave face on! But this post isn’t exactly about festivals, per se. It’s about festival style.
Shelbee chose the theme this month and it’s a cracker, right? To me, I instantly imagine festival style to be a kind of boho chic, and I guess the girls agree because every one of their outfits also has an element of boho to it.
My festival style outfit
I knew from the very start that I wanted to wear a kimono. I had intended to wear a black one with fringing, but changed my mind considering I was wearing another black kimono for last month’s Fab40s! So instead I opted to wear this colourful kimono that I bought last year. I cannot, for the life of me, remember where I bought it from though lol. The label says Lulla Collection by Bindya and they do have a website if you want to check it out. Isn’t it fabulous? I just adore the colours and the print.
For something so bold, I figured I would wear something simple beneath it. And my outfit staple has always been a pair of skinny jeans and it’s exactly the kind of thing I would wear to a festival. So, out came my ripped Tiffosi jeans, my black Zara vest, rose gold Aldo sandals and some of my favourite pieces of jewellery. The amethyst necklace and bracelet were gifts from mother-in-law (what a surprise!). The ring, however, was bought at the Silves Medieval Festival last year. We had a couple of fabulous nights there, but I imagine it will be cancelled this year 🙁
The outfit was finished off with another nod to boho chic: my fringed suede hangbag from Massimo Dutti. I love it, but it’s not very practical because there’s barely any room inside it! But it looks good though lol.
Isn’t the light perfect in these photos? We took them just after the sun came up about 7.30am. That really is the best time of day for photography!
Anyway, enough about me and festival style outfit. Let’s see what the other Fab40s girls wore…
But first…
Before I talk about outfits, I wanted to mention the lovely Dee from DeeSayz. Sadly, she had to leave our group for personal reasons due to Covid-19. We’re hoping that she’ll re-join us again soon, but for now, please do check out her Etsy Shop which she is extremely passionate about and where you can find some beautiful pieces of art. Dee also runs an eBay store selling textiles & furnishings like bedspreads, cushion covers, wall hangings, table runners, shawls & wraps – all handcrafted by weavers and craftsmen of North Western Indian states. Currently the stores are on vacation mode but once they are up and running again, I will share the links on the blog.
Shelbee, Shelbee on the Edge
Shelbee and I had the same idea to wear a kimono and I love that she’s worn it with a dress and practical boots! She is clearly well practised in the art of festival style dressing! The added headband is the icing on the cake for this gorgeous boho look <3
Sheela, Sheela Goh
Sheela is one badass, right? This festival look has literally just stepped off the pages of Vogue Magazine (I know, I say that every month about Sheela, but I can’t help. She’s just got IT, right?!) As you may or may not know, I ADORE anything in lace so I’m totally swooning over this look. And the super femininity of the dress combined with those kickass boots is just freaking AWESOME!!
Daenel, Living Outside the Stacks
Daenel and I are often on the same wavelength when it comes to style. And this time, we’re both in denim and flat sandals! Her dress is simple, yet sophisticated, but practical for a night out at a festival of some kind. I love the addition of the hat (I had thought about wearing one but I seem to have misplaced the one I wanted lol!) – it’s simply perfect.
And our guest this month, Eva from Costume Takeout
We are so thrilled to have Eva with us this month. Eva’s blog has an upcycled twist to it. She finds old items of clothing and upcycles them into something stunning, and up-to-date. I think the way she turned this old-fashion frumpy dress into a super cool blouse is just brilliant. Eva added a practical pair of shorts and a gorgeous pair of sandals and she looks all set to hit the festival circuit!
And me…thinking about those festivals that have been cancelled this year, but hoping all will be back to normal soon.
Sending, hugs, love and light to you all!
Suzy xx
