Dressing in grey and locking myself out of the house!

I did such a stupid thing yesterday – I managed to leave my keys in the front door (on the inside) and lock myself out of the house. I didn’t realise I’d done it until after I returned from nipping to the post office to pick up a parcel! Initially I thought perhaps I’d thrown my keys out with the trash, but then, on closer inspection (peering through the window), I saw them dangling in the door. Aaaaaagh!!

So I couldn’t even use the spare key that our friends keep handy (just in case) because my keys were in the lock. Grrrrr.

Unfortunately, hubby was also super busy elsewhere and wasn’t able to come and rescue me until after work. So I went and had a cuppa with the neighbours before wandering around the shops for the most part of the day. That would have been fun had I taken some money with me! I just had enough to buy a cup of coffee and a snack. It’s very boring shopping without cash isn’t it?

And I must say, I wasn’t exactly looking my best either. I had made no attempt to look good because the post office is situated in the village of Mexilhoeira Grande – where I was unlikely to see anybody except the post office staff. I was also wearing a pair of shoes that aren’t the most supportive for my bunions. Had I known I’d be walking in them all day long, I’d have worn my super comfy Calla shoes! LOL

The other annoying thing was that I’d left Luna (our little dog) indoors with one of the cats and left Roxy (our big dog) outdoors with the other two. Needless to say, they were all a bit upset with me at the end of the day. They got extra cuddles last night though.

Fortunately hubby managed to fix everything and all is well again. I’m just a bit behind with my emails and blogging now. But nothing to really worry about.

So anyway, let’s talk about my grey outfit. Clearly I was in the mood for grey last week… Grey jeans, sparkly grey sweater, grey cardigan, even grey earrings and a grey handbag. If I owned grey ankle boots, I’d have probably worn those too. I do love to wear all one colour. Not only can it be slimming, but it can add dimension to an outfit – especially if there are varying shades of the same colour.

Grey is one of my favourite colours to wear and I do have rather a lot of it in my wardrobe. I find it’s a colour that flatters many skin tones too. Is it a colour you like to wear?

I bought this sparkly grey top from the States when we went to Washington a few years ago. It was from one of those department stores but I can’t quite remember which one. Macy’s or Bloomingdales or something like that. The jeans are Levi’s – I do love their high waisted skinny jeans and find them the best style for my body shape. If you’ve got quite a small waist and shapely hips, they’re perfect.

I bought this grey cardigan years ago from a local Chinese shop and it gets a lot of wear from around now until the Autumn, because it’s quite lightweight and offers just enough warmth to keep me comfortable. It’s lasted really well considering it was such a cheap buy.

My boots feature regularly on the blog. I bought them from Aldo a few years ago. They are now packed away for the summer (although, I do believe we’re in for some more rain next week…sigh) and have been replaced with all my sandals and summer shoes. YAY!

Oh, I almost forgot to mention the fabulous handbag. If you’re a regular reader, you probably already know what I’m going to say…. yes, it was a gift from my mother-in-law!! It’s fab isn’t it? I love that it’s grey on one side, black on the other and also has a hint of animal print. Fun, eh?

I bought these earrings a few years ago from Bijou Brigitte – it’s such a bummer that they closed own because I used to buy most of my jewellery there 🙁

Hopefully the rain that is on its way will only stay a short while and then the summer will start in earnest. It’s been a long, cold and wet winter here in Portugal this year and we’ve just about had enough of it. But for now, it’s glorious outside – the sun is beaming down and I even managed to take some photos of a special swimsuit which will be featured next week, so keep your eyes peeled.
