Harm None and Love All of Nature

I read about a fascinating book the other day, entitled Global Wicca Revolution. As I’ve always been intrigued by the Wiccan religion, I decided to ask the author to tell us more about it. Her post, below, is absolutely fascinating…

THE GLOBAL WICCA REVOLUTION

Available on amazon and kindle stores in paperback and digital formats

In the Global Wicca Revolution, the author Swati Prakash presents Wicca as a global spirituality that has a far-reaching significance on the future of our planet. Wicca is a modern spiritual movement based on the principle of Harming None while adhering to any belief or practice of one’s choice. Wicca asserts that we are all creators or witches, and we need to apply our spiritual powers with wisdom in order to live in harmony and peace, while improving our life with magick. The religion of Wicca requires no conversion and is in alignment with paganism or native faiths that require us to embrace our ancient spiritual roots. The author clears several misconceptions regarding magick, witchcraft and Wicca while explaining in detail the Wiccan Rede and the laws of nature that are defined in Wiccan philosophy. The five elements of nature are brought to life with parallelisms based on science and spirituality both to explain the creation of our universe and the secrets of manifestation. Exercises are given in each chapter to help you banish negative energies and to manifest positive situations in your life. Wiccan spirituality as outlined in the Global Wicca Revolution is a practical, rational and ethical approach to using our natural spiritual powers and to help us evolve with times into a better world, as a civilisation and as individuals.

The Modern Spiritual Path of Wicca
A guest post by Swati Prakash

Humanity is witnessing a major shift from mindless consumerism to eco-friendly living. This change has been profoundly spiritual for many of us. Wicca is a relatively new religion to the world – one that is based on a love for nature. It is hitting us at just about the right time, when we are realizing the need to change before it is too late.

Our ancestors all over the world loved nature. They celebrated the seasons and believed in the power of the natural elements – air, fire, water, earth and spirit or aether which was the name given to the unknown or mystical aspect of nature. Nature is everything that is around us and everything that is within us (our inner nature). Some of us call it the Universe.

In Wicca nature is also referred to as the Goddess who is seen as all there is. The Goddess has both the feminine and masculine aspects. In her feminine aspect the Goddess is the hidden, invisible world that our limited human senses cannot understand. She is the mystery of mysteries including the unexplained, paranormal and ‘yin’ aspects of the universe. God in Wicca symbolises the known, visible and conscious aspects or the light of the great Goddess who hides and reveals her mysteries to us from time to time. As you can see, Wicca is one of the few spiritual paths that refer to the highest power of the universe in the feminine term – perhaps because it is really modern and recognises the inherent feminine power of creation that all of us carry within regardless of our gender.

This belief that we are all creators also makes Wicca a magickal faith, one that upholds that we are one with nature and her mysteries, and that we affect and influence our realities moment to moment, from within. Wicca is distinguished by an ethical code called the Wiccan Rede that says we must harm none and do what we will. (An Ye Harm None, Do As Ye Will). This makes Wicca stand out from most other magickal paths in that it honours our inherent powers while guiding us to be as harmless as possible in our manifestation.

In the past the western word for people (especially women) who believed in magick and the power of our natural elements was ‘witch’. In the western world witches were folk magicians in the pagan communities such as the Celtic, Nordic and other western faiths of the ancients. In other parts of the world the terms used were tantric, shamans, sensei, master, guru and so on and a great reverence or respect was always bestowed upon them as spiritually powerful individuals. The people of the countryside or villages in our past believed in the spiritual power and authority of men as well as women as their priests or priestesses. While male magicians or wizards would be preoccupied with loftier aims, witches were the medicine women and midwives who were called upon during births, deaths, marriages and other important occasions for the common folk. Witches could bless, heal or offer practical advice and spiritual counselling to help others in their communities.

To control the minds of people, at one point the past countless women as well as men and children were targeted and killed through witch-hunters. There were spread various baseless superstitions regarding witches being some sort of evil and supernatural beings who consorted with demons or the devil in the western world. These rumours were solidified by media projections all over the world in the form of stories for children and adults alike and to an extent the western media continued to be obsessed with such paranoia until present times.

In the 20th century after the publication of books by a renowned feminist and anthropologist Margaret Murray highlighting how witchcraft was misunderstood, there was a resurgence of interest in witchcraft as a religion or spiritual practice. British men such as Gerald Gardner, Alex Sanders and Robert Cochraine reintroduced witchcraft to the public and slowly the religion of Wicca was born as a neo-pagan revival of our ancient magickal past. At that time, owing to various laws against witchcraft and pagan spirituality, it was necessary to offer this knowledge through strict initiatory pathways to a few selected members of the public.

There are significant differences between the Wicca of today and the witchcraft of the past. Ancient spirituality of the east has survived the attempts of western conversion and has inspired Wicca to grow into not just a western but a global faith. Wicca is strongly based on ethical and eco-friendly beliefs and not just a collection of metaphysical practices of a few western men who propagated it through secret initiatory cults in the past. Today anyone is free to declare Wicca as their religious or spiritual belief after undertaking their own study and research. Wicca is still transforming and evolving, gathering more steam and emerging out of the shadows as people awaken and realise their inner power as well as their inner responsibility towards themselves and nature. Global Wicca is a path for the conscious or self-realized, those who choose their own beliefs based on the simple moral code – Harm None and Love All of Nature as a magickal manifestation of our inner divinity!
