Welcome to our third Songful Style post! Hosted by myself, Shelbee (Shelbee on the Edge), Michelle (My Bijou Life), Marsha (Marsha in the Middle) and Anne (Spy Girl), Songful Style is a brand new collaboration featuring outfits inspired by songs. We’re also inviting anyone who would like to join us, to post their own outfits in the link-up below. It doesn’t matter from what angle the song inspires the outfit, it can be from the lyrics, the tune itself, the album cover, music video, etc. Last month, our song was Leather and Lace by Stevie Nicks. Our third Songful Style song was chosen by Michelle and is Hi-Heel Sneakers by Tommy Tucker.
Hi-heel sneakers? Who wears hi-heel sneakers? That was my initial thought when I heard this month’s Songful Style choice. How on earth am I going to style that? But then I read the lyrics and everything changed…
Hi-Heel Sneakers by Tommy Tucker
Put on your red dress, baby Ya know we're goin' out tonight Put on your red dress, baby Lord, we're goin' out tonight And-a bring along some boxin' gloves In case some fool might wanna fight Put on your high-heel sneakers, lordy Wear your wig-hat on your head Put on your high-heel sneakers, child Wear your wig-hat on your head Ya know you're looking mighty fine, baby I'm pretty sure you're gonna knock 'em dead Put on your red dress, baby Lord, we're goin' out tonight Put on your red dress, baby Well, we're goin' out tonight And bring along some boxin' gloves 'case some fool might wanna fight Put on your high-heel sneakers, child Wear your wig-hat on your head now Put on your high-heel sneakers, baby Wear your wig-hat on your head Ya know you're looking mighty good, really I'm pretty sure you're gonna knock 'em dead
So then it became more about the red dress, as well as sneakers that could be worn to dance in. Hm? Well, I own two red dresses. One is long and floaty, off the shoulder. Super pretty but just not right for this theme. And the other is the one I decided to go with. I bought it a few years ago and, if memory serves me correctly, it was from a thrift shop. Again, it’s a really pretty dress but one that shows every lump and bump lol. But I felt I could go dancing in it…providing I wore something underneath because the sleeves had a tendency to fall off my shoulders.
So what footwear did I choose instead of shopping for hi-heel sneakers? Well…they had to be sneakers, of course. And, to go dancing, they had to be sparkly. So, that left two options: my sequinned Converse All-Stars or my Vans. I went with the latter because the all-stars are hi-tops and they cut off my legs, making me look even more stumpy. I added a gold clutch, a yellow necklace and a gold bangle and I was all set to go out on the town! I didn’t go out on the town though…bummer. Maybe next time?!

Will you join us this month? If so, please don’t forget to add your outfits (Instagram posts or blog posts) in the link-up below. And if you’d like to join us next month, Marsha has chosen the song, Hello, Goodbye by the Beatles. That should be fun (off to google what that song is because I have no idea….I’m sure I’ll know it when I hear it though lol).
