Are you as obsessed about khaki as I am? It’s been my go-to colour for so long. Whereas some people might opt for denim, or denim on denim, when they want to wear something that makes them feel ‘at ease’, I will almost always go for khaki on khaki. Don’t you just love it?
To me, khaki is as much a neutral as denim is. It can be worn with absolutely anything, it’s so versatile. Not only that, but it looks good on just about anyone too. Still unsure? Try it. I dare you….you might be surprised. If you don’t know where to start, look for a simple pair of trousers—or jeans—in khaki green and wear them like you would a good pair of jeans. Team them with a pair of trainers, high heels, chunky boots or sandals. There’s nothing that won’t look good with them.
You can even wear khaki on khaki like I have here. It’s funny, over a year ago I said I wouldn’t be seen dead in a pair of paper-bag trousers. I was convinced they would make my ‘shapely’ hips look huge and my arse even bigger. I couldn’t have been more wrong. This is the perfect example of trying something that takes you out of your comfort zone and ultimately works. I love the trousers now. Is it a style you dislike? Or are you like I was? Convinced they won’t suit you?
Some of the best advice I’ve ever had when shopping, is to pick up as many things as you can—things you don’t think you’ll like—and simply try them all on. I know it’s not easy at the moment with Covid still going on, but once the shops are open again (and the changing rooms!), go for it. Take a chance on styles you would never dream would look good on you. I promise you, it will be the start of something exciting.
As for me and my penchant for khaki, years ago, I remember my late step-mother-in-law commenting on what a dreary colour she thought it was, but it never phased me. I loved it back then, and I love it now. I have so much of it in my wardrobe and I know I will continue to collect it. This little shirt for instance, was a total bargain in Parfois, and I’ve not worn it until now. But look how well it goes with my paper-bag trousers and vest top. I showed the photos to Michael and his first comment was, ‘great colour combination’. See? Even the hubby agrees!
As is usually the case, I chose a bumbag because I like to be hands free as much as possible. This is the first one I ever bought from Kipling. It can actually fold up to become a cross body bag too which is pretty cool. But it’s not as big as the other Kipling ones I have.
Because it’s all about the green, I opted for green jewellery too. Yes you’ve guessed it, both the ring and the bracelet were gifts from my mother-in-law lol. Some people might think that green jewellery is overkill. I don’t. And plus, I don’t give a shit what people think anymore anyway! This is my style and I happen to love it. I really hope you have the same attitude when dressing every morning! Especially at our age, when so many people tend to start telling us what we should or shouldn’t be wearing. Two fingers to them! Or one middle finger (depending on where you come from lol).
The boots need no introduction. They speak for themselves, right? They’re Doc Martens and they’re (as we like to say in England) the dog’s bollocks. Sorry…. I just had to. It means they’re amazing lol. I adore them. If you saw my post (or YouTube video) about my new cloffice, then you might recognise them from my shelf where they sit proudly next to my desk. You can’t go wrong with anything that’s hot pink and sparkly, especially when it’s teamed with khaki on khaki!
