A couple of weeks ago I wrote about how difficult I find the hot Algarve summers and dressing for the heat really very tough. Honestly, I should be living in the north not in this kind of climate! But I’m here now and I have to cope with it. On a recent shopping trip, I spotted this cute little mustard yellow summer dress in Pull & Bear.
I tried it on more for the colour than anything else (you might remember me mentioning that I don’t tend to wear many dresses, especially short ones!), but I really liked it. The cut is good for me (because it skims over the tummy – perfect for bloated days) and shows off my shoulders (I love yoga 😉 ) And at less than 15 euros, it was a steal too.
Unfortunately, the cute cut out in the back doesn’t quite sit well for my tattoo, but I can live with that 😉
Fake Tan
You might also notice that my legs aren’t quite as translucent (!) as they were the last time I was brave enough to show them off. There’s a good reason for that – not because of the beach, but because my friend convinced me to buy some fake tan. Now, I’m not good with fake tan. I tried it about eight years ago and ended up a streaky, blotchy mess.
But my friend is a beauty therapist and urged me to give it a go. I did and I’m still perfecting the art – the following day after I wore this dress (and went over to friends for dinner) I realised my legs were distinctly patchy lol. Oh dear. Needless to say, when I’ve left the house since, I wore my thin, flowing trousers to disguise them. But I’ll persevere – it’s worth the effort considering how awful my legs looked when they were bright white!
As for the full outfit, as I mentioned, the mustard yellow summer dress came from Pull & Bear – a shop I do occasionally find the odd item of clothing in, even though it seems quite young (like I care about that!). Remember the blue shoes?
My tan sandals were bought from New Look several years ago and I still love them. They’ve got a slight 70s feel to them, I think. I love my Mangotti handbag. It’s the kind of colour that goes with just about everything. I bought it from Secret Sales last year.
The necklace and earrings I’ve had for years and can’t even remember where I bought them from, to be honest. Although after we took these photos, I did remove the necklace because it was just too hot to wear! Me and this heat – blimey, I’m useless aren’t I??! But at least the mustard yellow summer dress kept me a little cooler 😉
