This week’s Style Imitating Art inspiration piece is Norman Rockwell‘s Sunday Morning. Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar (14 Shades of Grey), Terri (Meadow Tree Style) and their brand new co-host Shelbee (Shelbee on the Edge). Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of the hosts selects an inspiration image and they each post the image on their blogs. The following Monday they share their art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits with the curator by 10pm Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog. This week, the curator is Shelbee and you can read all about why she chose this piece of artwork by clicking right here.
I thought that Norman Rockwell’s Sunday Morning is such a fun piece of art that I wanted my feelings about it to come across in my outfit. When I first saw it, I knew I would wear my pleated red skirt because the colour was perfect, and it resembled the skirt the young girl is wearing. Other than that, I had a vague idea to wear something striped but didn’t have a clue what that would be. But when I browsed through my wardrobe, I spotted my Gryffindor (Harry Potter—for those of you who have been living under a rock for the past twenty years) tee-shirt and knew it would be the perfect way to add a splash of fun to the look. I bought it from The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Florida some years ago. Unfortunately, it’s got steadily tighter over the years though lol.
Because the weather was a bit chilly when I took the photos, I opted for grey opaque tights and the addition of a grey cardigan, which I tried with a few belts. Ultimately, I decided against wearing a belt because this is more me. For added playfulness, I tried the red headband and rather liked it. Plus, it echoes the headpieces the girls are wearing in Norman Rockwell’s Sunday Morning. I could have worn some dainty pumps but I’m much more of a black boots kinda gal. I grabbed my ultra feminine polka dot handbag because this is the kind of bag I’d use if I was a Sunday morning churchgoer. But, as I am not a churchgoer, I thought it would be fun to hold my iPad instead. I was really pleased with the resulting outfit, and love how it all came together. I can’t wait to see what the SIA girls have in store for us next week!
Speaking of what’s in store…the other day I mentioned that Shelbee and I had decided to create a brand new style challenge which we will post on the last Monday of each month. Songful Style is not unlike Style Imitating Art, only we will be using music as themes instead of art. We’ve already got some new members to the group but if you’d like to join, drop us an email. Alternatively, you are more than welcome to post with us, on the last Monday of the month. This month’s song will be Nancy Sinatra’s These Boots Were Made for Walking. You can use the lyrics, album cover, artist, anything related to the song as your inspiration. We’ll be having a link-up on the day so you can add your posts to let everyone see. It’s going to be loads of fun, and I for one, cannot wait!! I hope you’ll join us!
See you soon!
