I’ve never been particularly good at pattern mixing, so when Jennie chose it as November’s theme, I had absolutely no idea what I was going to do. There was a vague notion in my head that I might try and wear the floral tights I bought last year from H&M (that I still haven’t worn), but when it came to it, I just didn’t have a single thing that worked with them. Hm…. pattern mixing, eh? Option two…
What was my option two? Well, I didn’t have one lol. So, I pulled out my entire wardrobe (okay, so perhaps that is a little exaggeration) and frantically tried to find something–anything–that might work for this theme. There was one item that kept catching my eye (probably because it’s khaki lol) and that was my camo-print combats. What print could I possibly wear with them that 1) was suitable for the pattern mixing theme; 2) didn’t look silly; and 3) looked like something I would happily wear.
First, I put the combats on with my super fabulous sparkly pink Doc Martens then struggled for half an hour to find a top that worked lol. So, I removed the sparkle and added my gorgeous new black ankle boots from Calla instead.
And then it just happened – the sheer leopard print top (with a black vest beneath it for modesty), black leather jacket (Massimo Dutti) along with my black and grey handbag with a hint of animal print down the sides. Now, if I’m completely honest, I would never (like ever!) have tried this particular combination of pattern mixing, but when it all came together, I just loved the result. It’s so not me, yet so me at the same time. I can’t even explain it. Weird, right?
Why I love my natural hair
I just had to add this photo because it really shows how my lovely white hair is coming through! I know most women my age hate grey hair and think it’s ageing. Personally, I absolutely LOVE it when women allow their own true colour to shine through. Plus, it’s incredibly liberating. I highly recommend it. And, I don’t really give a crap if it makes me look like my age. I’ll be 44 in a few weeks and I’m proud of that!
But that’s enough of me going on and on about my hair and my own pattern mixing (dilemma) success (!), let’s see how the other Fab40s gals styled it…
Jennie, A Pocketful of Polka Dots
Jennie has totally knocked me for six with her look this month. She’s managed to team not two, not three, not four but FIVE patterns into this outfit – and she looks freaking AMAZING for it!! Can you tell that Jennie was the one who chose this theme??
Outfit:
Cardigan – Ann Taylor
Top – Ember
Pants – Soho Apparel Ltd.
Shoes – JoeyO
Earrings – Shein
Sheela, Sheela Writes
Sheela is wearing the most divine skirt! I mean, just look at this beauty. And the print mixing is pure genius, right? Like Jennie, she has opted to mix more than two prints and the result is utter perfection!
Top, Skirt, Sunnies, Booties & Jewellery – everything thrifted
Shelbee, Shelbee on the Edge
OMG Shelbee has something special for us this month (actually, she really does every month!). But if you’re a regular reader, you’ll probably know how much I love vintage / 1940s / 1950s style, so when I saw her interpretation of this theme, I was in love with her entire look! I mean, just look at her. Just… freaking gorgeous!!
Daenel, Living Outside the Stacks
Sadly, Daenel is unable to post with us today for personal reasons but she did get a chance to send us a photo of her gorgeous interpretation on pattern mixing. Daenel, sending heartfelt hugs to you, my friend xx
Dee, Dee Sayz
Dee is wearing the kind of thing I would wear in a heartbeat. It’s simple and it’s chic and it looks fabulous! I must say, I’m totally coveting those wedge sandals!
And our fabulous guest this month, Fonda of Savvy Southern Chic
Who’d have thought such a casual look could look so stylish! Fonda, you’re totally rocking this look. I’m going to call it lumberjack chic. I love it! The beanie is fab, by the way!
