Two little words. Polka dots. What do they make you think of? For me, I can’t help but start singing that old song by Brian Hyland (I did have to look up who sang it lol), “…it was an itsy bitsy teenie weenie yellow, polka dot bikini, that she wore for the first time today…” I just can’t help it! Here it is on Youtube, if you have no idea what I’m talking about!
My Polka Dots outfit
Okay, that’s enough of that lol. We’re here to talk about the Fab40s and this month it’s all about the polka dots. I love polka dots. But when it came to it, I realised I don’t actually have that many items in the wardrobe that have polka dots on them. Hm? I couldn’t go shopping (we’re still in full lockdown) so I’d have to make do.
In the end though, I was really quite pleased with the result. If you look closely, you’ll see I’ve actually mixed three different prints—the polka dots in the vest, the zebra print in the shirt and the plaid in the trousers. Speaking of the trousers, I’m wearing them to death at the moment (see them previously on the blog here). I absolutely love them and wish I had them in different colours. They’re from Mango and they’re incredibly comfortable.
I hadn’t intended to pattern mix so much but it works. Proof that you can, quite easily, combine several prints. In this case, I think it works so well because they’re all in the same colours: black, white and grey. The only pop of colour I’ve added is the mustard yellow in my new trainers from Woden. Aren’t they fabulous?
Accessories come in the form of a polka dot handbag, and gold and black matching ring and necklace (which ordinarily I wouldn’t wear together)—all of which were gifts from my fabulous mother-in-law. Oh and the pearl necklace was a recent gift from her too. Isn’t it beautiful? It’s actually from TJC and it’s a very special necklace because you can store photos, video, etc in the pearl itself! Weird, huh? It’s still available if you’re interested. You can find it here (or the shop the look gallery below).
So there were have it. My polka dot outfit. And I love it! But how about you? How do you wear polka dots? Let’s see how the rest of the Fab40s gals are styling this theme this month.
Oh, and before I forget. Are you a blogger in your 40s? Do you love playing dress up? How would you like to join us? Just drop a comment below and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can!
Ada, Elegance & Mommyhood
Ada lives where the temperatures are absolutely dreadful at the moment, so she could not take any current photos of a polka dot outfit. Fortunately, though, she had this fabulous outfit photo that was just perfect for this month’s theme. Doesn’t she look beautiful? I think we’re all daydreaming about that glorious sunshine!

Daenel, Living Outside the Stacks
Like Ada, Daenel had some trouble with the bad weather this month so decided to take her photo indoors. I must say, her house looks absolutely gorgeous, right?! And speaking of gorgeous, Daenel is crushing it! She looks beautiful and I love her polka dot earrings!
Shelbee, Shelbee on the Edge
Shelbee, like me, is mixing prints with those fabulous striped shorts and she looks freaking incredible! The polka dots scarf is like the icing on the cake, not to mention the most gorgeous velvet blazer. I adore everything about this look and would love to have a go at recreating it myself!
