A quick and easy up-do, a black OOTD for dinner & link-up

wearing black

Last weekend, we had dinner with friends and the weather was glorious and warm. Sadly, a few days later, I’m sitting indoors with a sweater on AND my trusty thick cardie! What is going on with the weather at the moment? I wish Mother Nature would make up her mind already! But enough of that. Let me tell you about my OOTD for that dinner, as well as my quick and easy up-do.

a quick and easy up-do

Firstly, I had no idea what I was going to wear for the dinner, which started at 8pm—which, you would have thought would have given me all day to decide. But nope, I was still hovering around my wardrobe at 7.30pm. Luckily, I ended up grabbing a few things that went together perfectly.

The tweed trousers I bought on a whim in Zara a few months ago (and they only cost me 10 euros and fit like a glove), the black tank top I wear ALL the time because I love the loose fit around the waist, the gorgeous black rock-chick heels from Echo and one of my newest additions, not yet seen on the blog, this beautiful black Bulaggi handbag which was another gift from my lovely MIL for Christmas. I hadn’t realised, but it’s actually a certified vegan leather brand based in Holland.

What have I missed? Oh yeah, THE most gorgeous sparkly necklace of all time. Isn’t it beautiful? Would you believe this was a gift from an old friend. She said she never wore it and just gave it to me! I believe she said it was from Vera Wang (I know, right…I’m a lucky so and so!).

I had thought about adding a sparkly bracelet too, but it just seemed a bit much for dinner at a friend’s house. I know, now that I’ve written that, it seems a bit silly! Why not get all dolled up? Next time I will. I love playing dress up lol.

As for my quick and easy up-do, I used one of those mesh donut thingies (clearly I have absolutely no idea what they’re called!), but do you know what I mean? You can usually get them in a dark brown colour or a blonde-ish for lighter coloured hair. Mine was from Primark years ago and I do believe this is the very first time I’ve actually used it!

It’s such a simple way of creating a quick and easy up-do. You just pull your hair into a pony tail, and use the donut instead of an elastic, then pull the hair over the top to disguise the mesh. Then, put a tight (ish) elastic over the top of the donut, to hold it in place. Depending on the length of your hair, you might need to simply pin the remaining hair to your head using bobby pins.

Mine is a bit longer, so I plaited the remaining hair and clipped it into place with a hair clip and then used a few bobby pins to neaten it up. It didn’t take long and it stayed put all night, which surprised me because I’m not usually very good at up-dos. And the nicest thing about it? My neighbour’s 15-year-old daughter complimented me on my hairstyle! They’re all dancers, so that meant a lot to me lol!
