It’s time for June’s edition of Songful Style, where Shelbee on the Edge, Marsha in the Middle, and I bring you another fabulous song-inspired fashion challenge. Last month’s song was chosen by Shelbee and was Fat Bottomed Girls by Queen. This month’s song was chosen by the lovely Marsha, and it’s none other than Record Player by Daisy The Great. If you haven’t heard it yet, you’re in for a treat!
Record Player is an indie pop gem that features a quirky, catchy tune and some seriously fun lyrics. The song talks about embracing your unique style and finding joy in the little things, like listening to music on a vintage record player. It’s all about nostalgia, individuality, and having fun with your personal style.
Now, let’s talk about this outfit! I was so inspired by the video for Record Player that I just had to find something special for this month’s challenge. Enter this gorgeous blue-green vintage dress I recently scored from a fabulous little vintage shop in Aljezur, located on the stunning west coast of the Algarve, just half an hour from where I live.
The dress is below the knees, just like the lyrics mention, and the colour perfectly matches the vibrant dyed hair of the girls in the video (and it’s the same colour as my car lol!). The moment I saw it, I knew it was a match made in fashion heaven! Plus, the shape of the dress is a dead ringer for the one in the group’s first animated video for the song. It’s got that perfect blend of retro charm and a little modern flair, making it the ideal piece for this challenge.
I decided to keep the accessories simple to let the dress shine. I paired it with some white Converse for a casual, playful vibe and added a simple necklace, bracelet and ring alongside my Marc Jacobs Tote Bag. The dress itself is such a statement piece that it really doesn’t need much else! We took the photos in a really pretty spot in the Monchique mountains. It was such a hot, bright day, but luckily we found this shady spot which was perfect. The trees are beautiful, aren’t they?
Styling this dress for the Record Player challenge was super easy and yet fun. The song’s whimsical, carefree spirit is echoed perfectly in this outfit, making me feel like I’ve stepped straight out of a vintage music video.
