This week’s Style Imitating Art inspiration piece is Sheep by the Sea by Rosa Bonheur. Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar (14 Shades of Grey), Terri (Meadow Tree Style), and Daenel (Living Outside the Stacks). Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of the hosts selects an inspiration image and they each post the image on their blogs. The following Monday they share their art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits with the curator by 10pm Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog. This week, the curator is Daenel. For the last Style Imitating Art challenge, we styled Jazz Stories: Mama Can Sing, Papa Can Blow #1: Somebody Stole My Broken Heart by Faith Ringgold.
When I first looked at Sheep by the Sea by Rosa Bonheur, I was stumped. I had absolutely no idea how I would style an outfit based on this pretty painting. In the end, I decided to just keep the picture on my laptop as I opened my wardrobe…then things just started leaping out at me. Specifically, the blues, the creams and the greens.
I had only just put away all my summer shoes, and replaced them with my winter boots. So this seemed like the perfect opportunity to put on my trusty Timberlands, which I’ve had for years. They are probably the most comfortable pair of boots I’ve ever had. I love them to bits and I can’t bear the idea that they will one day wear out (just like the rest of us, right lol?!)
I pulled out the colour green in this cute little summer top I bought from Stradivarius a few years ago, and a necklace from my MIL. The cardigan just added a little extra cream—it’s from Parfois a couple of years go. Would you believe I paid less than ten euros for it? Such a bargain!
I tied the look together with a brown suede fringed handbag from Massimo Dutti, which actually gets very little use these days because it hardly holds anything. There’s barely room for a wallet in there. But it looks cute though! And there you have it, my take on Sheep by the Sea by Rosa Bonheur. A simple outfit, but one which I rather like. Usually, you wouldn’t often see me wearing boots with a summer top, but lately, I’m just too hot to wear long sleeves. Like, Sunday night, for example. We had friends over for a Halloween dinner (homemade vegan pizza to be precise), and I got all dressed up in my finest witchy outfit (a black lacey dress with a high Victoriana style collar, black and white striped tights and black boots) and then promptly changed into a green and black sleeveless top with black jeans rolled up at the ankles! These bloomin’ hot flushes are driving me crazy!
