Heart of Glass
“Heart of Glass” by Blondie, cooked up by Debbie Harry and Chris Stein, strutted onto the scene in their third album, “Parallel Lines” (1978). And in January 1979, it skyrocketed to the top of charts worldwide.
Rolling Stone gave it a nod at 255 on their “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” list in 2004, and guess what? It climbed to 138 in 2021.
“Once I Had a Love” transformed into the iconic “Heart of Glass,” thanks to producer Mike Chapman’s touch. The song’s journey, from its early steps to its full-on disco groove, is pure musical gold. Wouldn’t you agree?
A bit of a twist, though. The “pain in the ass” lyric got uptight people talking, leading to radio-friendly edits. But no worries, the song still stood tall, symbolizing Blondie’s fearless music evolution.
My Heart of Glass Outfit
Gosh, I struggled with this one! I had no clue what I was going to wear. Initially, I thought I might see if I could find a one-shouldered dress in the shops, but I couldn’t find anything. Then I figured, perhaps I’d find a dress with an uneven hemline instead. Nope. That wasn’t happening either. So, I had a good look through my wardrobe and ended up with a dress I bought in the sale last year but still haven’t worn. I got it from Zara (online), obviously when I was feeling a little more confident than the norm lol. It’s a bias cut dress so it hugs all the curves (even the ones I’d rather it didn’t!). I love the colour. I mean it’s khaki. It’s totally my colour. And I love the polka dots. I’m just not sure I love myself in it! However, it was the closest thing I have to Debbie Harry’s look—although Debbie’s dress is actually black and grey and looks nothing like mine lol. She’s also wearing clear plastic shoes but I don’t have any of those…. but I did try on a pair in Zara recently lol!!
So, I’m wearing my khaki and black bias cut dress from Zara, my black strappy heels from Ecco and my black clutch from Massimo Dutti. I added a bracelet and ring from my late MIL and a pair of long green dangly earrings (a gift from a friend last birthday). If I was feeling a little more confident in myself at the moment (don’t worry…it’s just my hormones talking!), I’d probably love this look so I will keep the dress for now. You never know, my hormones might decide I rather like myself in it in a couple of months!! If you’re anywhere near my age (or have experienced my age), then you’ll know exactly what I mean! I must say, I think my outfit is probably more 1920s than 1970s lol! But I guess that’s just the nature of interpretation, right?!
