This week’s Style Imitating Art inspiration piece is London Underground Posters by Austin Cooper. Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar (14 Shades of Grey), Terri (Meadow Tree Style) and Shelbee (Shelbee on the Edge). Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of the hosts selects an inspiration image and they each post the image on their blogs. The following Monday they share their art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits with the curator by 10pm Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog. I wasn’t sure I was going to make this week’s Style Imitating Art, but I managed to quickly create an outfit first thing this morning. Looking at the images, I had no clue how I would style it though. But then, when I broke down the Austin Cooper’s Posters, I realised I had the perfect little summer dress that I could switch up with the addition of a royal blue top I bought last year from Zara, and some red accents like the necklace and handbag (both gifts from MIL). I actually wore this dress for another SIA post last year.
Okay, so I’m going to admit, I’m not totally loving the outfit because I feel quite far out of my comfort zone, wearing these shoe booties with a dress. Would you believe I’ve never actually worn them yet (I’ve had them a few years)? Don’t get me wrong, I love them—they’re from Ecco and they’re unbelievably comfortable, but I’m not sure I like them with a floaty dress like this. There’s just something about it that’s not quite me. Maybe it’s the dress itself that’s off. I’m not sure. But I was determined to style it for this week’s Style Imitating Art because the colours were so perfect. Perhaps it’s just because I’m wearing a dress and I don’t wear them that often. I really need to embrace them a bit more, right?
So that’s my interpretation of Austin Cooper’s London Underground Posters, a piece of artwork completely different from other Style Imitating Art pieces lately. How would you style this theme? Would you choose the cooler colours of the artwork? Or the warmer shades, like I have?
