Tell Us About… Your Personal Style

Last year I joined a fabulous group of women for a global writing challenge—Gail from Is This Mutton (UK) Deb from Deb’sWorld (Australia), Jill from Grown Up Glamour, Mary Katherine from MK’s Adventures in Style (USA),  Penny from Frugal Fashion Shopper (UK), Australian blogger Sue Loncaric from Women Living Well After 50, Leslie Clingan from Once Upon a Time and Happily Ever After and Marsha from Marsha In The Middle. On the third Thursday of every month we’ll respond to the prompt “Tell Us About XXX” which could cover any subject matter. It could be a blog post with opinions or memories; a poem,  photos, anything at all. Last month, the challenge was family history and was prompted by Jill. This month, Sue chose the fun prompt of…your personal style.

Today, I’m delving deep into the world of personal style, and let me tell you, it’s been quite the journey! For as long as I can remember, I’ve been on a quest to define my own unique style but the thing is–I’ve never quite fit into just one box, and honestly, I’m totally okay with that!

Over the years, I always admired those effortlessly stylish individuals who seemed to have their signature look nailed down to a tee. You know, the ones who effortlessly rocked that bohemian vibe like Stevie Nicks, or exuded quirky elegance à la Iris Apfel. And let’s not forget about Diane Keaton, with her iconic boyish charm and penchant for wide-legged trousers. These style icons spoke to me on so many levels, each representing a different facet of my own fashion persona.

But here’s the kicker–as much as I adore those distinct styles, I’m a serial style experimenter! I thrive on the excitement of trying out different looks, pushing the boundaries, and embracing the unexpected. That’s why I’m all about those monthly style challenges, like the fabulous Songful Style and the legendary Fab40s. These challenges fuel my creative fire, inspiring me to come up with outfits that are as diverse and dynamic as my ever-changing mood.

Now, you might be thinking, “But wait, don’t you want to be known for a specific style?” And the truth is, while part of me loves the idea of having a signature look, I’ve come to realise that it’s just not me. And you know what? That’s perfectly okay! Because at the end of the day, personal style is all about self-expression and staying true to who you are. Don’t you agree?

However, if there’s one style that’s always held a special place in my heart, it’s Victorian Goth. There’s just something utterly captivating about the dark romance, the intricate lace, and the haunting beauty of this aesthetic. It speaks to my soul in a way that few other styles do, and even though I may not dress like a Victorian Goth every day, it’s a part of me that I cherish deeply.

But on any given day, you’re likely to find me rocking a pair of jeans and a fun tee, paired with some brightly coloured trainers. It’s my go-to look for tackling whatever the day throws my way–comfortable, casual, and full of personality.

So, here’s to embracing our personal style–whether it’s bohemian chic, quirky elegance, boyish charm, or a little bit of everything in between. Because when it comes down to it, the most important thing is feeling confident, empowered, and authentically you. So we should all go ahead, experiment, explore, and above all, have fun with fashion!

Now, let’s see how my fabulous friends styled this fun challenge:

Debbie feels that she doesn’t have a style as such and isn’t much of a fashion plate, but she does like wearing certain colours – usually the brighter the better. Debbie’s not usually one to talk about fashion so this is a fun post. Read more about Debbie’s personal style at www.debs-world.com

Gail from Is This Mutton finds there’s a great feeling of peace and satisfaction about nailing your personal style, with no more expensive mistakes. And it costs nothing to do.  Link:  https://www.isthismutton.com

Penny’s summary is as follows: Tbh, I struggle with the concept of a personal style as there’s one style I would really like to be seen as having but in reality I wear altogether a different set of clothing.  But just maybe you could have several personal styles? If so, that’s me! Frugal Fashion Shopper
