The Tencel trousers I wish didn’t fit

There’s a funny story about these Tencel trousers. About five years ago I did a raw food cleanse and continued to follow a really healthy regime for a while, which led me to lose quite a bit of weight. I went from a UK size 12 to an 8 to 10. Whilst shopping one day, I stumbled across these gorgeous wide-legged Tencel trousers. It was the fabric I loved, and, because I was watching The Great British Sewing Bee at the time, I figured I’d buy the biggest pair I could find and then cut them up and create a dress out of them. If you’re anything like me, you might often get these silly ideas in your head every once in a while (!). So I bought the size 42 (probably a UK 12 to 14) and promptly put them in the cupboard and never did anything with them, except take them out occasionally, have a look at them and think, “one day I’ll make you into a dress!”.

A few weeks ago, when our new sofa arrived, I needed to clear out the cupboard with my old bits of fabric in it. When I took the Tencel trousers out, I wondered if they’d fit me now. I really didn’t want them to—but I really did at the same time lol. They are a gorgeous pair of trousers…

Anyway, as you can see, they clearly fit me around the hips and bottom. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how you look at it), they are quite large around the waist. But as long as I wear something long to cover it, they actually look pretty good! I don’t know if I’m happy about it though!

The Tencel trousers are also way too long. On this occasion (dinner with our neighbour pals), I wore a pair of platforms, but I think I’ll have to hem them to a better length because I’d love to wear them with trainers. Perhaps, while I’m at it, I’ll adjust the waist too! But my sewing skills aren’t as good as I wish they were. We’ll see.

As for the rest of my outfit, I’m wearing a yellow t-shirt from Massimo Dutti’s summer sale. I really wish they’d have had more colours though because I love it. The Tencel trousers were from Modalfa (kind of like the Portuguese version of Asda’s George), my shoes were a gift from Michael quite a few years ago and were from some designer I’d never actually heard of (and can no longer remember!), the handbag was from Zara last year, and the necklace? Yes, you’ve guessed it, a gift from MIL lol!

Do you ever buy items of clothing for the fabric? With intentions to chop it up? If so, do you actually succeed?
By the way, in cases you’re wondering what size I actually am now. I’m a 10-12 (Eur 38)
