SIA: The Great Mystery of Water by Christi Belcourt

The Great Mystery of Water by Christi Belcourt

This week’s Style Imitating Art inspiration piece is The Great Mystery of Water by Christi Belcourt. Style Imitating Art is hosted by Salazar (14 Shades of Grey), Terri (Meadow Tree Style) and Shelbee (Shelbee on the Edge). Style Imitating Art challenges us to draw style inspiration from pieces of art. Every other Monday one of the hosts selects an inspiration image and they each post the image on their blogs. The following Monday they share their art inspired outfits. Participants submit their art inspired outfits with the curator by 10pm Tuesday and, that Wednesday, the curator shares all of the submissions on her blog. This week, the curator is Terri and you can read all about why she chose this piece of artwork by clicking right here.

Blue peacock bag

I was immediately drawn to The Great Mystery of Water by Christi Belcourt because, well…it’s beautiful! There is so much depth to the colours, and I love how the artist celebrates the beauty of the natural world. Even though I’m not a huge outdoorsy person, I do adore nature in all its glory. Which is why I probably chose to style my new handbag (a gift from MIL) for this week’s theme. I know it doesn’t have fish on it, but it is still very nature inspired with its images of beautiful peacocks. Plus, the colour was absolutely spot on.

It was clearly the blues of the water that were pulling me in to this artwork, so that’s what I went with, choosing to wear the silky, bright blue, wide-legged trousers I bought a couple of years ago from Bershka. I love these trousers. What I don’t love is the way they crease at the slightest bend of the knee! It drives me nuts…and is probably the reason I’ve hardly worn them (plus the fact that they’re so long, I have to wear heels).

I also picked out the cream and dark colours of the fish in my cream and black wedge sandals (Aldo), and cream vest top (H&M). I tied it all together with my trusty denim jacket (Primark) and blue necklace (MIL). I love how the outfit came together, and I feel like it’s a pretty good interpretation of The Great Mystery of Water, don’t you? Did you take part in this week’s SIA challenge? What was it about the artwork that appealed to you?
