When I turned 40 last Boxing Day, there were three major ‘achievements’ I wanted to do this year and as of this week, I can now say I’ve done them all.
Three major achievements
The first occurred a few days after my 40th birthday when I got a tattoo for the very first time. The second was to become a qualified yoga instructor which happened after I completed an intensive yoga teacher training course in October.
The third might seem relatively trivial to many of you but was quite an achievement for me. I hired a car and drove in England alone for five days. And I must say, although I was nervous to start with, I absolutely loved it!
Car hire
It didn’t start out too well though, because when I landed at Southend Airport and presented my documents to the Europcar desk, I was told I couldn’t take a car because I’d booked (and prepaid) for the car with my husband’s visa card and he wasn’t there to sign for it! And because I didn’t have my own card to pay a deposit (!?!!), I simply couldn’t hire a car (WTF right?). Fortunately my in-laws came to my rescue and drove down from Chelmsford and used their card. I’m certainly very lucky to have them! I don’t know what I would’ve done had they not been able to assist. The woman from Europcar was really lovely though, she tried everything possible to help.
In case you’re wondering why it’s such an achievement, it’s because I’ve only ever driven in Portugal where we drive on the opposite side of the road, the roads are massively less busy than they are here in England and generally the driving is slower. It’s completely different from driving here, I can tell you!
So that’s it, that’s my three major achievements I wanted to do this year. Once I’d completed the third, I was so excited about it. All I need to do now though, is to come up with some new achievements for 2017 😉
