According to the so-called ‘style rules’, we shouldn’t wear wide-fit trousers with wide-fit tops. Well…I say to hell with that, if I wanna wear a wide-fit outfit, I’ll wear a wide-fit outfit!
Last week I had a fabulous day hanging out with two lovely friends for some shopping and a spot of lunch. One of the girls isn’t much of a shopper, so she was amazed at my shopping ‘skills’ lol. She told me afterwards, she couldn’t believe how I entered a shop, scanned everything and then went to work! She’s right though, that is kind of how I do it. Whereas I did notice she kind of looked like a rabbit in the headlights, wandering aimlessly around. Needless to say, I left our shopping date with far more bags than she did! Our other friend is more of a shopper, and she bought a few things too. But I’m digressing…I’m meant to be talking about my wide-fit outfit….
Well, it was at the end of our shopping date that we had a quick look in Bershka because I’d seen a pair of fabulous sequinned trainers online and I wanted to try them. Sadly, they didn’t have them, probably because most of the items in-store was all the winter stock on sale. I’m hopeful I’ll find them soon though, because I want to try before I buy, just in case they’re not comfortable. Again, I’m going off-piste! It was just as we were leaving that I spotted a brightly coloured sweater that spoke to me. It was the last one on the rail, and I grabbed it. I didn’t even try it on. For 15.99, I was having it.
Well…the next day when I tried it on, I realised just how wide it is. I mean, it’s huge! And the size on the label reads ‘XS-S’ lol. But it didn’t matter because I love the colours and the print and both my friends had seen it and described it as ‘so me’.
When I came to styling it, I knew immediately I’d don my current ‘signature style‘, and wear it over a shirt. And on this occasion, the best option was a huge, wide-fit shirt. And because I’d bought these wide-fit, black, slightly cargo-style, trousers from Zara on the same day, I figured I’d wear them too. So, everything I put on was wide-fit, and you know? I freaking love it. I think it’s a fab combination and it’s super comfortable too so that’s an added bonus (especially as I was rather hormonal at the time!).
I even like the fact that the shirt (old, from Primark) beneath the sweater has stripes on it, kind of clashing with the print above it. It’s a fun outfit and we should all have fun with our style, right? What do you think? Would you dare to wear a wide-fit outfit? Or is it too much for you?
