WITCHY BOOKS
Today, I thought I would share some of the amazing witchy books I’m either reading right now, or have on my wish list (which is getting bigger by the day lol). There are so many wonderful witchy books available and I will be talking about many more in upcoming blog posts. This post is about factual books, however I will post about fictional witchy books soon. So stay tuned 🙂
Witchery – Embrace the Witch Within
Blurb
Everywhere, the witches are rising. Are you ready to answer the call and embrace your own inner witch?
In this book, third-generation Witch Juliet Diaz guides you on a journey to connect with the Magick within you. She explains how to cast off what doesn’t serve you, unleash your authentic self, and become an embodiment of your truth. You’ll also learn the skills and techniques you need to build your own Magickal craft.
I bought this book during my last visit to the UK (a year ago) and it’s simply gorgeous. I’m taking it slowly, only reading a little at a time, so that I can really learn from each aspect. I highly recommend it.
The Book of English Magic by Richard Heygate & Philip Carr-Gomm
Blurb
Of all the countries in the world, England has the richest history of magical lore and practice.
English authors such as J.R.R.Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Terry Pratchett, and J.K.Rowling, dominate the world of magic in fiction, but from the earliest times, England has also acted as home to generations of eccentrics and scholars who have researched and explored every conceivable kind of occult art.
Most people are torn between a fascination with magic and an almost instinctive fear of the occult, of a world redolent with superstition and illusion. And yet more people now practice magic in England than at any time in her history.
The Book of English Magic explores this hidden story, from its first stirrings to our present-day fascination with all things magical. Along the way readers are offered a rich menu of magical things to do and places to visit.
This is one of those books that I bought for next to nothing in England years ago. I have used it a few times as a reference but since, well, that epiphany I mentioned before lol, I’ve started reading it from beginning to end. It is absolutely fascinating.

Witchcraft a complete guide by Theresa Mooney
Blurb
This overview of witchcraft for beginners covers the roots and history of witchcraft; the significance of the goddess and the god; sacred space, the magic circle and the Otherworld; the elements; power, spells, magic, and the traditional tools of the witch; and initiation rites and ethics.”
This is one of my oldest witchcraft books. I can’t remember when or where I bought it, but it just proves to me that I’ve always loved all things related to witches. I’m reading it from page to page at the moment and I’m learning all there is to know about the craft. And considering it is a bit dated, I don’t think it really matters because witchcraft doesn’t date, right?

The Witches’ Ointment : The Secret History of Psychedelic Magic by Thomas Hatsis
Blurb
Examining trial records and the pharmacopoeia of witches, alchemists, folk healers, and heretics of the 15th century, Thomas Hatsis details how a range of ideas from folk drugs to ecclesiastical fears over medicine women merged to form the classical “witch” stereotype and what history has called the “witches’ ointment.” He shares dozens of psychoactive formulas and recipes gleaned from rare manuscripts from university collections from all over the world as well as the practices and magical incantations necessary for their preparation. He explores the connections between witches’ ointments and spells for shape shifting, spirit travel, and bewitching magic. He examines the practices of some Renaissance magicians, who inhaled powerful drugs to communicate with spirits, and of Italian folk-witches, such as Matteuccia di Francisco, who used hallucinogenic drugs in her love potions and herbal preparations, and Finicella, who used drug ointments to imagine herself transformed into a cat.
Exploring the untold history of the witches’ ointment and medieval hallucinogen use, Hatsis reveals how the Church transformed folk drug practices, specifically entheogenic ones, into satanic experiences.
I haven’t bought this yet (it is in my Book Depository wish list, though!). I heard about it during an interview with the author on the Gaia Channel and I was really curious. It sounds amazing, and the author worked really long and hard to produce it, so I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy!

Practical Magic : A Beginner’s Guide to Crystals, Horoscopes, Psychics, and Spells by Nikki Van De Car
Blurb
Practical Magic: A Beginner’s Guide to Crystals, Horoscopes, Psychics, and Spells is for the casual clairvoyant, the weekend witch. This charming entre into the mystical introduces readers to the wonders of modern magic, from crystals and astrology to chakras, dream interpretation, and, of course, a few spells!
Focusing on three primary areas — healing, magic, and fortunetelling – Practical Magic provides the perfect primer, with a warm, welcoming tone and spell-binding illustrations. Clear introductions on trending topics, like herbal tonics and astrological charts, are paired with home remedies, hands-on instructions, and suggested rituals in a chic, stylish format that will capture the imaginations of good witches of all ages.
It was the book’s witchy title that first drew me to it (Practical Magic is my all time favourite movie, after all!), but after reading what it is all about, I just knew I had to add it to my wish list. I’ll be ordering this one soon, for sure!
